Non-GMO Elevator Speech – GMO 101
This technology started in the mid 90’s. It is NOT something we’ve been doing for thousands of years. The same chemical companies that made Agent Orange, DDT, PCB’s and other toxins such as Monsanto are making these GMO foods we eat. Ask “What do you think genetically engineered crops are meant to do?” (Some people don’t understand the question so I prompt them by saying; “would they want to make food bigger, better, more nutritious, or make more of it? In fact there aren’t any benefits to you or I. They aren’t made to be bigger, better, more nutritious, drought tolerant or anything else. There are only 2 traits to genetically engineered crops. 1) Roundup Ready crops where the farmers can spray their fields with the weed killer Roundup and the crops won’t die. They spray tons of it on our food and in fact it is now being found in the air, water, and in our blood, urine and breast milk. Not only that but the weeds are becoming resistant to Roundup so farmers are spraying more pesticides and the EPA is now approving crops to also be sprayed with Agent Orange, 2,4-D. 2,4-D is associate with Parkinson’s, cancer, … 2) the other trait is a toxin engineered in every cell of the corn or soy and is registered as a pesticide. Our food is registered as a pesticide. Bt is harmless if it’s sprayed lightly on fields but this is engineered into every cell of the plant. It’s meant to break open the stomachs of a certain bug but in fact it’s now known to be toxic to humans at the levels in our food. Look at what is happening to the health of our children since we’ve been eating this food. Autism, asthma, allergies are through the roof. Do you know someone with cancer? In fact, 64 other countries either ban or label GMOs including Russia and China. They won’t even buy our corn because it contains GMOs and it hurts our farmers. American food companies who sell food in these other countries make products non-GMO or label it already, for the countries that require it but they won’t do that here.
