My try at a mini comic for the topic "Fave Charm" for this year's Exalted Art Challenge. I really just wanted an excuse to draw a Righteous Devil doing really cool anime things which I barely ever get to draw my gal doing!

My Eclipse, Kalara, wouldn't hurt a fly while she is working towards peace between the Guilds (she has people who do that for her). However, what most people don't know is that she has an alternate gunslinging Righteous Devil persona that most definitely can shoot the wings off said fly!

Kalara meets a group of 'fans' on her way to a meeting. Enjoy the fallout and guess how many and which charms she just popped!

Drawn in Procreate with word balloons/text done in Clip Studio Paint. I have renewed respect for my fellow comic artists! Even doing this rough comic was a TON of work. Hat's off to my buddies who do this regularly!

Exalted Art Challenge 2024 Topic - Player Character / Fave Caste

I was finally able to get around to my own entry for the Exalted Art Challenge happening this month! I'm slow this week, so have a WIP for now.

I've always admired Eclipse Castes for their potential to change the world via hearts, minds, and good biz (and in my gal's case, judicious use of Righteous Devil shenanigans, failing those things).

Here's what my Eclipse, Kalara, might look like on the 3e core rulebook cover, with a little pose help from the folks at @theposearchives.

Kalara's getting a little redesign along the way because her old anime spike mullet was always very difficult for me to draw at different angles and I think this new hair helps show off those earrings of hers better.

Sharing the covers from the core and Lunars rulebooks I'm referring to because they're some of my fave pieces of official art.

Exalted Art Challenge Concept Sketches - Favorite Charm

The concepts for Favorite Charm (or magical ability) gave me a chance to explore the many glorious flame FX of the Celestial firepower of a Righteous Devil like Kalara.  It also granted a bit of wish fulfillment since she never learned Garda Flies on Gilded Wing Attack.  These FX are just SCREAMING to be animated and are giving me more incentive to learn animation in Procreate!

I'm saving the top right thumbnail of Cloud of Ebon Devils for a cover piece because it just has presence! Future cover of a sequel story to The Uncrucified, perhaps?  Or at least some cool promo art!

Kalara Vadras - Casual Clothing Set. Righteous Devil gunslinger and no-nonsense businesswoman, Kalara needed to rock even her casual look! Read more about her design at her story’s blog.

Kalara is a character inspired by the Exalted 2nd edition setting from @theonyxpath .

The Exalted Secret Santa art exchange was just the motivation I need to complete Kalara’s full reference sheet!

Character Introduction:

Kalara Vadras waits for no man, woman, or god. She gets results! This savvy businesswoman can frequently be found at one fabulous luncheon or another wining and dining trade gods or drinking hard amongst the artisans and crafters to seek out new talent. 

She often travels in disguise to avoid the high profile nature of both her controversial criminal past and her newfound status as the founder and leader of the Pristine Guild.  This new mercantile organization has pushed the Guild from the East with corporate warfare and, as some rumor, with untraceable assassinations and political machinations.

Despite her public image as a businesswoman, Kalara is one of the few surviving practitioners of the gunslinging martial art of the Righteous Devils. However, she prefers to leave this gunslinging reputation to her infamous alias, Koh the Silver-Tongued Devil, a male disguise she created in her younger years to throw her Guild enemies off her trail.

In recent times, however, she's beginning to care less about hiding from her enemies, preferring to face them head on as her organization, power, and allies grow.

Exalted Art Challenge Concept Sketches - First Age Incarnation

In each spark of Exaltation resides a Shard which is passed down from one worthy vessel to another. This gent here is Calym Lang, the Solar and Righteous Devil practitioner whose shard Kalara would eventually inherit.

Calym was a shrewd and paranoid master of trade whose cold pragmatism would be his downfall. Kalara is more like him than she would like to admit at times and the two maintain a begrudging respect towards one another. She often communicates with his greater soul in the underworld, the two poking fun at each other's flaws in a good-natured competition to see who will achieve their goals through more effective ends.

He's also ghostwritten a series of erotica novels that Kalara is a fan of, but will never tell him.

Calym's mural venerates his status as one who united the four corners of Creation, all trade routes leading to the compass in his hand. I imagine this to be the centerpiece of a wider mural, each region of the mural depicting the exports of the area they represent (an image our Storyteller described once that never left my mind).
