I don’t understand why it’s the year of our lord 2024, I’m still seeing posts about there being no POC/queer rep in good quality fantasy media, and these folks still don’t know that The Dragon Prince exists.
So if you’re still making/reblogging these posts and haven’t watched The Dragon Prince yet, that sounds like a You problem that needs to be fixed.
Celebrating 11 years of The Uncrucified living rent free in my head with a character art retrospective! TL;DR I am an inefficient designer who drew her a billion times over the course of 11 years till I got it right lol.
For those who want the deep dive, I wrote an in-depth post over at The Uncrucified's blog. Discussing how I approached her visual identity, style evolution, ethnicity, etc. and the major visual revelations along the way.

On the black Elf in TRoP:
Look Amazon. I have no problem with Arondir the black Elf. From what I've seen, I think he's pretty neat. Granted, you absolutely ROBBED that man of having locks of beautiful, long, flowing braids with golden threads intertwined and I won't forgive you for that (the way black people do their hair is amazing to me and I could go on a whole separate rant about how it was a CRIME to not let him have cool hair, do you REALIZE THE POSSIBILITIES OF CHARACTER DESIGN YOU'RE PASSING UP? FANCY, INTRICATE HAIR IS ONE OF THE MOST DISTINCT CHARACTERISTICS OF ELVES AND YOU SAID "GIVE HIM NONE" ??).
I digress.
HOWEVER.
If you're gonna give us one black Elf, give us more. He didn't just come out of nowhere, he obviously had a family. Show me his family! Show me the tribe of beautiful dark-skinned Elves! You can't just throw one black Elf in there in the name of diversity and then just leave him there as the only one-- that's just plain bad writing!! There better be more of them! If you're gonna do it, do it RIGHT!
THE NIGHT OF THE MIDSUMMER GATHERING — The Second Age
As the alliance of Elves and Men grows stronger so does the bond between Lady Galadriel of Lothlorien and Lady Belathorn of Arnor (a Dunedain Kingdom from the North). On a blissful summer night, Gil-galad, the High King of the Noldor, decides to host a festival to celebrate the small victories that their armies have over the Dark Lord Sauron. But as the beautiful melodies echo throughout the halls, Galadriel’s smile fades for she does not see her beloved amongst the sea of dancing guests. She leaves the company of her folk in search of her and finds the Lady Belathorn hidden in her chambers in conversation with her servants.
