Besides being #FathersDay, it's also #Juneteenth. For those of you who may not know, #June19th, 1865 was the day that Union soldiers landed at #GalvestonTX delivering the news that the war was over and that #Slaves were FREE. This was 2.5 years after the #EmancipationProclamation. #Texas had too few Union soldiers to enforce the order before reinforcements came after Lee's surrender in April of 1865. It became known as "Juneteenth", and is the oldest celebration saluting the end of slavery in the U.S. So, THIS DAY, for decedents of freed slaves, is similar to #IndependenceDay.
