Pairing: Tsurara x Rikuo (Nurarihyon no Mago)
A/N: Wakana’s perspective in Ch 197. This one’s for the NuraMago fandom. Hope this helps :)
Wakana watched the scene on the Nura yard with a smile. The yokais were getting live footage of her son, Rikuo, battling in Kyoto from a floating eyeball. Though she was constantly worried for her son's safety, she had to have absolute faith in him and trust that he'll come back from his many battles alive. Becoming a part of a yakuza family isn't for the faint-hearted, after all.
The little ones had apparently seen an old enemy named Tsuchigomo on the screen and became terrified. This Tsuchigomo fellow must have been a tough one, she thought. Then a voice rang among the chaos, loud and crystal clear. “You mustn't panic everyone!"
"Please believe in Rikuo-sama. If we waver, how can we make this place to which he can return? In order to follow Rikuo-sama's will, we will make this place a support pillar of the yokai world!"
This was what made Wakana smile. With just her words, she was able to calm the yokais and strengthened their fear. This wasn't the first time the yuki onna showed her unwavering faith for Rikuo. She was strong at heart and very devoted. There wasn't a single hint of doubt in her. Wakana could see why Rikuo trusted her the most among his subordinates. As his mother, she was glad that someone like Tsurara was by Rikuo's side.
So Wakana thanked her. "Thank you, Tsurara-chan. You really have faith in Rikuo. I think that would definitely make him happy too."
At this, the pale yuki onna blushed. "As Rikuo-sama's most trusted aide, this is the only way I could be of use so..." she trailed off. Ah, it seemed like getting left behind by Rikuo really bummed her after all.
She looked at the young girl in front of her. She could see disappointment for not being able to assist her master firsthand in Kyoto. She could see worry for Rikuo's safety and yet despite that, there was trust in him and faith that he will come back. Beyond all these though, Wakana could see something else: love. She went through the same thing back when she was young after all so she knew the symptoms.
Whether Tsurara was aware of her feelings or not, Wakana couldn't tell. The girl was much too cute for her own good that Wakana couldn't help but tease her.
"Hmm...Don't worry. He'll definitely come back..."
"...to see Tsurara-chan's smiling face." Wakana finished.
The yuki onna paused, then blushed, before she reacted. "Eeeh?! I-is that so?"
"He hasn't actually said that but it's probably true?" Wakana replied teasingly and laughed at Tsurara and Zen's banter.
Truthfully, she actually liked being called 'mother' by Tsurara. If it's her, then Rikuo will be okay.
To make up for her teases, Wakana gave Tsurara something true. “But you know, lately...Rikuo has seemed very happy."
Wakana recalled the times when Rikuo asked for his aide's company in almost every one of his outings, his worry for her during Shiwasu, his apparent closeness with her, the growing protectiveness, the swift but frequent glances and the soft smiles. Wakana saw all that. And she was sure that it won't take long for her son to make a move. Though less bold, he was still very much like his father.
The pale girl smiled softly and nodded. "Yes." She was happy to know that her master was happy. Eventhough Wakana meant something different, she let it slide. She'll have to leave it all to fate...and Rikuo.
A/N: This one’s not so fluffy, isn’t it? Don’t worry, I’ll cook up some fluff soon. Thanks for reading and reviews are always great. :)
