Counting Sleep - A ‘Jack Frost’ Prequel
This short comic, written and illustrated by the superbly talented Rilguia, tells a beautiful, heartwarming story of Jack (when he was still a human teenage boy, before he became the winter spirit) and his little sister (who he sacrificed his life for).
We only get a glimpse of what Jack was like as a human in the movie - a playful, mischievous yet incredibly charming prankster, who, despite his outwardly rough, carefree, don’t-careish nature has a surprisingly kind and generous streak, and is fiercely protective of his family and friends.
It’s a shame we didn’t see more of Jack’s dynamic with his sister in the movie, or his past life (because, time constraints) - but this comic remedies that with its incredible art and story.
I know winter’s almost over - but what the heck, this story makes me want to cuddle under a warm, fuzzy blanket with a mug of hot cocoa, and a small fire crackling merrily in the hearth as the snow falls gently outside.

For the past few days, I've been debating whether or not I should post this at all.
On one hand, I am very much against art theft - which is basically posting other artists' work on your page without their consent, regardless of whether or not you’ve credited the original creator.
But in this instance, I couldn't possibly ask the original author/artist permission because they have deactivated their account, and there was no way to contact them.
I loved these comics so much when they first came out that I didn't like the thought of them being 'lost' over time. Far as I can tell, only a few of these pages exist today on Pinterest.
So here they are, in HD quality - preserved for posterity.
And Rilguia, if you are reading this, do leave a note so that I may link this post to the original source or to your profile; and allow me to tell you how much I loved and appreciated your work!
