precious paws animal shelter: your muse accompanies mine to adopt a pet. 

murphy smiled, sticking his finger into a cage to stroke a kitten’s ear, “what d’you wanna get? a kitten? a dog? this is so fuckin’ fun!” he widened his eyes then, looking at the kittens in front of them, “i mean freakin’, sorry guys. too young for that shit.” he brought his attention back to riley, you should name it puck- but not... like, the shakespeare guy or the glee one- like a hockey puck!” brainstorming names that were always usually dumb was his favorite part of a new pet. his eyes lit up then, “oh, what if you named it frosting or, like, croissant? since you’re a chef! rotini would be pretty cute too!” he would keep suggesting names until riley either came up with her own or conceded and let him name her new pet- he would never insist on such a thing, but he would be honored. he was still a little offended that soph hadn’t named sumo ian or ranger as per his suggestion, but sumo was cute too. momentarily distracted by a little part-beagle puppy making puppy dog eyes at the pair, murphy dropped the name conversation, beaming at riley, “it might have to be him- look at him, riles! reminds me of you, but in dog form.” he flashed a goofy grin, cooing over the puppy that riley would hopefully get and, of course, name rotini.

there was nothing like a vacation to take the sheen off normal life. nico had decided that must be what was up with riley. she had seemed to have left her own sunshine back in montauk too. they’d spent most of the day in their apartment, streaming and trying to work out how to make her feel better. on hearing her front door close, signalling she was back from work, the best they had come up with was trying to bring a bit of vacation back to new york. after whipping up a pitcher of something fruity, and changing into a vacation get up, they crossed the hall and banged a couple times loudly on the door.

‘ r u making breakfast? ‘ went their shaky text, weighed down into their bed with the heaviness of the fourth tequila shot and insomniac sleeping patterns. ‘ there’s nothin more i want in this world than ur pancakes :( ’. there had to be some benefits to living across the hall from one of your oldest friends who also happens to be chef, surely. they often pushed their luck like this, with riley and many others, and it worked more than it didn’t. a couple strained seconds passed as they attempted to catch up with a streams of texts from the night before but the beaming of their screen with a true foe. instead they thought silent prayers, head cradled in their pillow, waiting for riley’s response.

eliza: what’s something you’d fight for? 

“Please note that I probably don’t stand a chance in any violent encounter whatsoever, but I’d take a punch for most of the bennington gang and my mom. I’ll have to think twice for people like Robin or Ed, but most likely I would still.” 

lucy: who’s someone who you think will be in your life forever?

“Hmm, Raph definitely, and Roman even though he’s miles apart, and also....” She trails off because she wants to say Lucy. With recent events however, she’s not so sure anymore. Her heart whispers Lucy’s name, but her mouth refuses to say it out loud. Romantic or not, she doesn’t want to imagine a future without her. 

tommy: what’s a song that speaks to you?

“Easy. it’s got to be Baby Shark,” She deadpanned before smirking and shaking her head. “I don’t know, it’s probably Feeling Whitney by Post Malone. It’s pretty much what I play for the nights I wallow in self-deprecation, looking out from my upper floor window, pretending to be a character in some indie mumblecore film.”

harley: what’s your muse’s love language?

in terms of communicating love, eddie is a BIG gifts guy. he likes to have a tangible way of expressing his love because communicating emotions is not something he’s good at. he likes to spoil ppl lol. literally what is the point of selling your soul to wall street if you don’t get to buy ur boyfriend gifts. def the kind of guy to always show up with flowers and other little things to show his love. in terms of like,, the love he likes to receive it’s different. he just wants to feel like someone cares abt him, so little bits of physical affection, little compliments, etc. 

blue: what’s your muse’s favorite meal?

his favourite thing in the world is his grandmother’s cooking ( rip i think i actually haven’t decided if she’s dead or not ), but when he orders korean food he’s always adamant that it’s not as good. the only thing that comes close is frankie’s kimchi, but sadly it’s hard for him to get his hands on that. he does love a steak dinner. and to be fair he’s almost on board with SOME of raphs cooking.

lucy: who’s someone who you think will be in your life forever?

"i mean, orchids can live up to a hundred years, so i’m hoping poppy will stick it out for that long at least,” he jokes, a not-so subtle attempt at stalling while he thinks. “other than that? frankie and sophie feel like top contenders purely because they’ve already stuck around for so long. i’d also be pretty upset at tommy if he didn’t take me with him to stardom, and i’d totally publish a tell-all about how he dumped me for fame.” he doesn’t mention eddie, not because his name isn’t on the tip of his tongue, but because he doesn’t want to jinx it - the desire to keep someone around forever when they’re really only temporary is too familiar for him to admit to it again. 

eliza: what’s something you’d fight for?

“oh god, i’m supposed to say something reall important here, like civil rights or voter oppression or baby seals getting clubbed. but my mind is literally blank. all i can think about is that one time i called trader joe’s in an alcohol-fueled breakdown about the fact that their truffle honey mustard is only seasonal. like seriously, why the fuck even introduce something so precious if you’re only going to recall it after the winter season? gets my blood boiling even now.” he shakes his head, breathing deeply lest he get motivated to pick up that phone again. 

frankie: what are you most scared of?

"so it’s like, a spectrum, right?” he holds both hands out, illustrating two ends. “we’ve got crazy existential fears over here, and irrational tangible fears over here. lots that are kind of a mix in between too, like how i’m a bit scared of pool noodles tangibly because they kind of look like tentacles to me, but that fear also stems existentially from the fact that the human race has grown to be careless enough to feel comfortable leaving their lives in the hands of a flimsy little noodle that’s supposed to save them if they’re drowning. does that make sense? i don’t think it does. anyway, short answer is box jellyfish and never being truly loved.”

tomley: have you ever fallen in love with someone you’ve only hooked up with?

”mm...only hooked up with? no.” not exactly true, and he knows it. tommy’s spent far too many hours lingering in hook-up’s beds well past sunrise to just say a point-blank no. “well, i mean, i’ve definitely gotten crushes. that’s probably...more often than not for everyone, right? how can you just not feel anything for a person you’re sleeping with? but i don’t think that’s proper love.” as if he’d know it; tommy’s never been in proper love in the first place. 

taster: do you believe that someone out there is made for you?

“i like to think so, but...” aster certainly did. aster was the definition of someone who believed in soulmates: her conviction on the matter could be intimidating. “i don’t think so as strongly as i think i’m supposed to. i’m just real worried about fucking up my the one, and then what? or, i guess, maybe that’s the whole point, huh? i hope so.”
