[ robin ] are you hungry? i’ll swing by and bring food
kyle stared at her phone. she should be used to this by now- the unanswered texts, the nonchalant way robin treats her, the pain that seems to reside in her chest like a bug.
she’s a big idiot, a fool, a moron.
she clutched the bag filled with pastries and the two cooling coffee, eyes downcast. “what are you doing, kyle. you’re so stupid. why did you even come here. at least knock on the door and get rejected, idiot” she muttered, angry tears blurring her vision.
she startled at the sound of the door opening, expecting to see robin (or even rowena). instead, a girl emerges. and kyle can’t breathe. she felt the girl bump into her, heard her mumbled apology. but, she can’t focus on anything but the tightness in her chest.
of course, of course he has someone else, what did you expect?
“oh hey, new girl. um, it’s kyle, right? you were at the party? were you waiting for someone?”
she hastily wiped the few tears that managed to escape before turning towards her with a wobbly smile, “yeah, i just stopped by to give these to robin but seems like he’s” she paused, struggling to keep her voice from breaking, “a bit preoccupied. maybe you can give it to him, instead?”
There was a moment of confusion, but only a moment as her gaze transfers from the food in the other’s hands to the Kyle’s weeping face. It doesn’t take long for her to realize what’s going on. Frankie knows the symptoms of unrequited simping--the waiting, the unexpected gifts, the unwarranted feelings of betrayal. She frowned and shook her head, brows furrowed in an expression of sympathy.
“No, no, I think you got it all wrong. I was here for Ro,” she stated softly. “Robin and I are far from friends, much less whatever you think we are. I’d rather watch the entirety of Twilight in a 24 hour loop than sleep with....” She trailed off upon realizing that the jab might be in bad taste. She held out her hand to lightly rest it on Kyle’s shoulders. “Hey, are you okay?”
A few moments ago, she didn’t think she could’ve been more upset at the prospect of Lucy and Robin getting together. Seeing Kyle on Robin’s doorstep, food in hand with her eyes wide and sad like a lost puppy, Frankie’s anger doubled over. It was one thing for her to always be on the short end of the stick, she’s used to it, but seeing someone else stuck in the same boat as her is unbearable because she knows how hard it is. She wanted to march back into Robin and Rowena’s apartment and finish what Edward started last night. Instead, she swallowed hard, eyes suddenly sever. She realized that if no one’s going to be honest with Kyle, she might as well be the one and save the poor girl years of pining.
“Between you and me....I don’t think you should keep your hopes up.”
