#that gifset reminded me i do want to give this movie a little shoutout after all bc im thinking again about how handsome xff is in suits????#it's a movie very much about same-sex desire btwn women and genderqueerness even though it wasn't really integrated fully into the plot(??)#we COULD HAVE proxy-maternal/daughter relationship mentor-student relationship i go crazy again thinking about how they made#the maternal figure mentor play chen xiang while her student played san sheng mu!?!?!??! insane choice#you have xff's character dress like a man most of the time and she has a hoard of raving fangirls who dream of marrying her#her adopted daughter is in a lesbian relationship whose butch gf is the one who recognises the gender queerness of her gf's mother#and ofc as usual queerness explored in the context of chinese opera is so so so compelling and special to me#also thinking about the part in yang-yin where stan kwan's mum talked about being a fan of wenwusheng#and them discussing about queerness in the context of cantonese opera#this movie really could have it all!!!#my posts#rin posts films#虎度门
