So I had this whole plan where I was going to do a countdown to Rune Factory 4 Special’s western release where I released a new cover from the OST every few days until the game came out and then...that didn’t happen

I never actually posted my finished transcription for Leon Karnak, and I will at some point but not right now. No, in the mean time? Have this demon song. I struggled so hard to get a semi-passable recording of this. I like my reduction of it for the most part but it’s deceptively tricky...and I’m the one who reduced it. So this isn’t a clean recording, but it’s probably the best you’re gonna get from me at this point in time.

I also have a blooper reel that’s basically half an hour of me crying if anyone’s interested in me cutting that up and posting it at some point (I kind of lost my mind for a while there whoops)

So anyway, yeah. I had fun with this, I just also wanted to throw my piano out the window so there’s that.

This is it. This is the song that got me into K Project. Nine times out of ten, if I’m going to get into an anime, it’s because I hear one of the songs and I love it and then I start watching the show and I love the show (looking at you, FMA). And K Project was the first one to accomplish this in a while. Now, I haven’t watched K Project in forever, and it is kind of obscure, but I adore it. And Assembly is an amazing track. I’d also like to do covers of Suoh’s theme and other good tracks, but let’s start with Assembly, which immediately captured my attention when my brother was really excited to show me this one really visually appealing anime.

So I did take some liberties with the song, it’s not a cover as much as it a remix. I tried to highlight the phrases and motifs I liked best from the song and put it together in a DnB setting. I like to think I kept to the original spirit of the song just...you know, a little more chill.

Hey look, my voice! You see friends, it was a big ole mistake for a chorus girl to realize that she had access to a simulated cathedral whenever she wants it, because while it’s not quite the same as singing in an actual place with awesome acoustics, it’s still a phenomenal feeling.

So I always wanted to do a cover of “The Dawn Will Come” from Dragon Age Inquisition, but for the longest time I didn’t really know how I wanted to do it. Then I find live reverb after fighting with my mic for a week to make it work with my DAW and improv this in one night. It’s a cheesy but powerful moment in the game, and I hope I captured some of that here (this song has also been my anthem for like...the past three months now anyway, so yeah...).

If you want more Dragon Age stuff, I also want to do a crossover cover of Solas’s theme from Tresspasser and the main theme together at some point, and probably some of the more notable songs from Origins and II as well. And if DA4 doesn’t bust, I’d love to do some stuff for that, too...but that’s still a ways out, so we’ll see.

If you listen carefully, you can probably hear a ticking in the background of the recording. Annoyingly, my mic can and will apparently pick up my metronome through my headphones. On the other hand, the echoing metronome in the background kind of added a neat touch to the song, so I went ahead and kept it. For future projects, though, I’ll try and keep in mind that this mic might actually be a bit too powerful and buy a more focused one when I get the money for it.

Until then, I’d love to do more vocal work! I have some covers I’m working on now, more mainstream stuff than what I usually do, but I’m trying to broaden my spectrum a bit to include all the kinds of music I love doing, so keep an eye out for that stuff. So I finished this one a while ago, but I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. Then some nerd said I should put my stuff up anyway whether I like it or not and if it sucks I can use that as a baseline to improve on...I guess I can’t really argue that one...

(I guess that’s the only reason I haven’t deleted my old Newgrounds account...most of that stuff is uhhhhhh not great....but then again I was really just starting at that point, so it’s to be expected...)

So anyway, I don’t remember how I found this song, but I instantly fell in love with it. It’s juuuuuuuuuust this side of weird and also annoyingly catchy, and it’s one of those I played on loop forever. And also this is probably the only The National song I know, too, so...yeah.

So I started working on this song...??? months ago? I don’t even remember. And I found it again and I was like “hey this is pretty neat! Imma pick it back up!” And then it was labeled “Love Song Thing” and I’m just sitting here listening to it and thinking “What was past me thinking? This is hardly a love song! This would be right at home in the mines of Stardew Valley, you know better!”

So anyway, I’m going to pretend that this was inspired by Stardew Valley from the getgo (love me some good SDV OST’s) because yeah. It’s my music so I do what I want, right? Hope you enjoy!

Do you like Rune Factory 4? So do I! And I got my brother at least into the soundtrack and we both agreed that we would cover a few songs from said soundtrack.

So this is me working on a piano/violin reduction and once you get the hang of this song, it is reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally fun to play (same can’t be said for the actual dungeon, sadly, but the music still rocks). Not done with it yet, but it’s going to be awesome once I am done (especially if we can get a decent recording with my dad’s upright).

The call and response between piaon and violin was actually my brother’s idea, and I thought “this is cool, it means I’m not just playing chords the whole time!” And since it’s a reduction, I can play around with the arrangement however I want...

I transposed the song up a couple of keys because I hate playing in Eb minor (the original key) and one of the pianos in the house doesn’t have a functional A4 key (and guess what becomes a vital note to this song in E minor--that’s right, A4....uuuuuggggghhhh). So...F minor. Actually sounds pretty good in this key anyway.

Here’s a revised and expanded version of that Riddle song for @ntkdevelopment. I’m much happier with this version, as it sounds more natural and mysterious, and a bit more chill. Yeah, if you’re trying to solve a riddle, you’ll probably need so sense of urgency. Overbearing pads, however, just startle and break concentration, so they had to go. It’s more padded too, so it makes it feel more complete, which is one of the things I didn’t like about the original composition. I’ve still got that other song I’m working on too, and that’ll hopefully be done within the next few days (now that I’ve said that it’s going to sit untouched for another two weeks, probably, but I’m going to work against my habits to make sure that doesn’t happen).

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy, even amidst all the chaos that is this...ehrm...wonderful, upstanding bastion of a website...yeeeeeaaaaaaah.

Okay, so I’m a day late. I blame the new job not knowing how to stick to a schedule.

Anyway, so here’s the completed version of that WIP I posted the other day (not the NtK one). I think I’m going to keep the name “Snap Out” because I like it. For the most part, I’m alright with how this turned out. It’s probably not my best work, but it’s also probably not my worst…

My digital piano has a midi port and it has better dynamic sensors than what I can add in manually, so I think I’m going to experiment with live recording in the near future. Doing it this way will take away some of the cleanness of mapping out a song in a synth program (how I do it now), but it would probably add a more organic feel (particularly to piano compositions--which is what I want to strive for). I’m also not the greatest at playing piano, though, so...we’ll just see what happens. Please share your thoughts either way, though.
