Reader getting fatally injured on a mission.
For the first time, Megumi doesn’t care about other people seeing his affections for her. He does what he has to. He rips off his jacket and uses it to apply pressure to the wound. He speaks to her over and over again.
“I know, I know, I know it hurts. You have to stay awake, you have to stay awake.”
But she can’t. It hurts. Her head is fuzzy. Her ears are ringing. Her senses are fading. It’s cold-so cold. And Megumi is there. Her Megumi. She’s always safe to sleep around him. It can’t hurt right?
Nobara is in tears. Maki forces herself to look away. Panda, Inumaki, and Yuji all stay in sullen silence. They know how this is most likely going to end.
But Megumi refuses to let it happen.
“Please,” he begs, to no one in particular, “Not this one. Not her. Anyone but her.”
Shoko’s on her way. She’ll fix it, right?
Megumi grabs his girlfriend’s hand. His demon dogs are whining.
“Not yet,” he rasps, “not yet. It’s not your time. We’ve still got so much left to do. God damn it, I’m going to marry you. You have to stay awake.”
The medical team shows up, and Shoko heads straight towards Megumi.
“Go get treated, Megumi,” Shoko commands.
“I’m not-”
“Go.”
He pauses, takes another look at her, then hesitantly backs away. Would that be the last time he saw her alive?
His blood soaked uniform was still in his hand.
