As a background, I live in a small community and we have various clubs--mommy and me, senior evenings, bunco, etc. New for the summer is a ttrpg club! Well, that's cool! I've really been wanting to play dnd again since I haven't really played since before covid.
The flier said bring food, ok well I have celiac so I can't eat anything anyone brings but I'll bring a fruit tray because that's safe. I am the only person to bring food (until about an hour later a mom and her kid bring cookies and crackers). MOST of the people that showed up didn't show up until 7 so I could have safely had dinner at home and then gone without missing anything so good info for next time.
Talking with the couple of organizers and early folks, a couple of them are already active in the community and they're all already friends. They seem nice. One guy though... listening to the way he talks about how he plays. It's not my thing. I don't want to play in a game where the DM is trying to kill people. I want to be friends. I want to build something together. I don't want an antagonistic relationship, in or out of game. Several people also seem to not be keen on dnd and want to play more board games and that's cool. After awhile some more folks showed up and we had some good discussions about systems and what we're looking for. I think it will be ok.
I of course am the difficult one where don't ask me about how we want to handle food because I'm just going to bring my own for myself and I don't use facebook so you will have to email me!!
