Rin is not out here having a good day.

She gets released from the curse and has Sesshomaru in her arms for like five seconds before he has to leave.

She leaves the tree of ages for the first time in 14 years, and sees her husband take what should have been a fatal blow.

Her kids disappeared

She's gotta try and a demon who's just as strong as her Sesshomaru while trying to protect him.

Her kids show back up.

Sesshomaru says if Towa takes all the demon energy, she'll die. Then she does take all he energy and collapses.

Poor Rin. Just want these characters to have a good time.

The Imperial Mindset is alive and well here in the HnY fandom...

Yknow, I was honestly happy about Sessrin being canon after 20 years of waiting, but then as I look through the tags for some quality content...why am I not surprised it’s precisely this ship that would garner all the controversy/negativity? 😂 Ahh, it definitely reminds me of the ship wars from the early 2010s era. Either way, good times! 

Looking through the anti-sessrin posts though, I think what’s honestly more cringeworthy than the accusations of pedophilia and grooming (and not to mention how easily those words are thrown around for morality points) and all that, is the self-entitlement of certain fans towards the anime for which they are neither the target audience, nor do they have much understanding of the cultural context.

Being uncomfortable with sessrin is valid, that point I won’t argue; fans are more than welcome to their opinion, and to drop the show, if it stresses them out too much.

But the self-entitled idea of equating the opinion of “Sessrin is ped0philia!” as morally superior and touting it as such towards those who do ship them...I don’t know, to me it hints and reeks of that western imperialistic mindset, to be honest. That, I think, is the cringiest out of all the drama happening going on right now with this ship. 

Rumiko Takahashi, for one, has never shied away from topics the West consider all too often to be taboo. She would not have gotten to where she was as one of the most respected mangaka in Japan without doing so; her works has always been considered “problematic” by some Western audiences (lookin’ at you, Ranma 1/2). 

To apply a Western, modern, perceived-to-be-morally-superior POV towards an anime based on a mix of cultural fact and East-Asian mythology is quite frankly ignorant, but not surprising for this platform filled with fake woke youngsters looking to get some internet clout for being pure, holier-than-thou daisies. 

Either way, suffice to say that for all their complaints towards Sunrise, Rumiko Takahashi, et. al., in the end, it makes not one ounce of difference. XD The audience outside of Japan is not its main target, so I’m relieved to say that they wouldn’t care in the least. Just let ‘em puff their hot air and move on, que sera sera and all that~
