Thomas walked around the school campus holding tightly on Stevie’s hand. At first, he didn’t think it was such a good idea to bring their children to an event like this but Eliza had insisted, saying some old friends were dying to meet their two babies and Tom could never say no to his wife. So here he was, showing Stevie around the place where her parents had first met, he wasn’t so sure if the 3-year-old could understand anything he was saying but she looked in awe of the tall old buildings as she escaped from his grip and into the nearest stranger. “I’m so sorry,” he muttered to the other person as he went to pick up Stevie in his arms. “The older she gets, the harder it is for me to keep up with her.”
with a singular deft movement lyss linked her arm with the other persons’ and started off around the room with them, glancing over her shoulder before leaning in close to confide. ‘so i may or may not have accidentally done something quite silly,’ she whispered to them, speaking to them as though they were some kind of undercover spies on a secret mission with her. ‘i may - or may not! - have led that young man over there on just a little bit...and now he believes he has some kind of a chance with me. so i’m begging you, help me out here.’
“i know it’s fancy dress and all that, but do you think mattie and richie will let me get away with these? because i think they look fucking great with my dress.”
four (or five, who even knew at this point) champagne flutes down, and the young princess was practically buzzing. after years of non-stop black tie balls, she’d learnt to balance the fine line between getting drunk and yet, appearing sober. “you know what the best part about these formals are?” she asked her conversation partner, lifting the glass to meticulously painted petals, her eyebrows arching slightly. “someone is bound to mess up. and my vote is on all those who showed up in cocktail attire. i mean, if you couldn’t even bother to read the invitation properly, i don’t have high hopes for you.”

dear alum,
you are cordially invited to the 10-year reunion celebrating the academic year 2017/2018, starting sunday 28 january 2028 at 11PM GMT. please rsvp at your earliest convenience.
the prospect of not being at university might seem foreign to you now, with your eyes almost permanently glued to the pages of your dusty textbooks, but chances are --- in ten years time, you’re not going to be at oxford university anymore. unless you decided to teach here (but, after at least three years of forcing yourself to write an essay two times a week, why would you?) and apart from being an excellent opportunity to get back on campus for a week-end, reunions are good for another reason, too: gossip. who has gotten with who? do any of your (former) classmates have kids? and most importantly; who have messed their lives up the most since receiving their diploma? well, you’re about to find out. fingers crossed that it isn’t you.

People always wore the same mask at every party; just becouse they had one placed right now it didn’t mean each person had a facade. Eliza was just walking around; studying the crowd of people and occasionally drink her champagne slowly. She wasn’t looking for anybody in specific. Seduction, intrigue, the most dizzying affair where bound to happen to night and she wondered if she would be among the many. As she walked to get a mother glass of champagne she accidentally bumped in to somebody. “Sorry love; I didn’t see you there.” @tomgeldof
James had barely wasted anytime between entering, getting a drink from the bar, and heading out onto the first empty balcony that he spotted. he’d actually barely touched the drink that was sitting on the ledge, mostly because once he finished, it meant he’d have to go back inside to get another one. he kept his back turned to the party, eyes trained instead on the city in the distance. His focus was so intense that he didn’t even take notice of the sound of the door out onto the balcony opening, or any footsteps nearby. @sabrivcs
