sophie i love all your whouffle/whouffaldi/clara tags like SOOO much and i know you GET IT when it comes to these emotions, so i just figured i would drop in with some feelings i had while i was working on something and some hikaru utada songs came up on my shuffle. 1/2
2/2 “Breath, should I take a deep? / Faith, should I take the leap? / Taste, what a bittersweet / All my, all my life / Let me face, let me face, let me face my fears / Oh, let me face, let me face, let me face my fears / Won’t be long, won’t be long, I’m almost here / Watch me cry all my tears / Lose, soon have nothing to / Space, this is what I choose / A mile, could you walk in my shoes? / All your, all your life”
Wow, I love this! It fits them so well. You can see traces of all three of Clara’s seasons with the Doctor here, but I especially like this song for the Face the Raven/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent arc.The begging, repeating cry of “Let me face my fears,” makes me think of Clara going out to face the raven asking to be brave, and the “won’t be long, won’t be long, I’m almost there,” chant makes me think of the Doctor telling himself that over and over again as he makes another crack in the confession dial wall, while the “watch me cry all my tears,” line pairs perfectly with Clara crying as she watches the Doctor collapse where he stands and she realizes he’s going to forget her. “Space, this is what I choose,” is a great line for S7 Clara deciding to go off with the Doctor in the first place, S8 Clara deciding she just can’t give him up (“shut up and show me some planets,”), but I also especially like it for Clara’s exit, where she chooses to go back to Gallifrey the long way around, and the last time we see her, she’s smiling and flying her TARDIS through space.
Thanks for sending me this. :)
