loooong post going over the differences between CCF (I'm Gonna Stay With You)'s music video and the official The Scholars booklet you get with the CD.
firstly, in the digital version of beolco on his little typewriter the ccf poster in his room is SO far away!!
it's like 2 feet away or whatever it depends on how tall you think beolco is.
this is the booklet for comparison!! beolco is also simply bigger. Also, the denseness of the bricks is more in the booklet art, the perspective is different such that you can no longer see the floor from further, the lamp and desk are positioned slightly differently and Beolco's pillows are straighter. You also can't see the inside of the window from the booklet's perspective.
despite the booklet leaving this shot until The Catastrophe (chapter 4, so much further in the libretto than we see in the music video), it appears second in the ccf music video.
this is just a photo of artemis rather than the whole band because she's the only part that I can see any discrepancy.
her foot is slightly protruding from the foreground in the music video, and the barbed wire(?) is in covered by her arm bandage in the music video whereas the barbed wire is in front in the booklet. It's also easier to see that her strips are blue, pink and white. same as the transgender flag!!
Next, I think Rosa's shot in the music video is the most interesting in terms of the discrepancies.
It appears after the one of CCF despite the booklet having it way later since it takes place in Part 2 rather than Part 1 like CCF and The Catastrophe. You can actually see a definitive mistake, probably from separating the art, in the music video. Rosa's hair is missing on the right side of her face, leaving her bat nose floating weirdly!! Obviously, this is fixed in the booklet.
The shot in the music video is very claustrophobic compared to the booklet. It's much more zoomed in, you can see The Scholars book and the open one is much closer to Rosa, as is Behemoth himself.
More interestingly, you can't see the library behind Rosa in the music video. The burning motif that follows Part 2 is present in both, but is much further away in the booklet version. There is also one other set of steps that you can't see in the music video, but this might just be because of the zoom.
Next we see Lady Gay Approximately, from Part 1.
the only difference I can see is that there is a feather missing!!
I will instead take a second to ask what the fuck is the utensil on the far left. twork? holy toledo. then there's also a spoon with a knot. truly revolutionary.
Equals has some as well!! It's the last song in Part 1 but appears before Devereaux in the CCF music video. This is actually my favourite shot in the entire booklet... not just because the stained glass looks like something out of mlp.
It appears that the skull and cabinet were touched up from how they appear in CCF, with a little bit of proportion and perspective fixed. Beolco's legs were also touched up a little bit to fix the problem with perspective. The fact the moonlight was shining exclusively on perimones(the phone) seems to be be highlighted in the booklet.
Reality has a few mistakes in the music video!!
Here's the music video, then here's the booklet.
I've just included the section with Artemis since most of the issues are to do with her... You can see she's missing her straps on her hat in the music video, as well as one of the red straps on her socks. The background is also unfinished in the music video, less trees and no socks. There's also a mistake where there are 2 trees floating in the music video! this was fixed in the booklet obviously.
Devereaux is next, second to last in the music video despite being the second song chronologically in the album!! This one mostly looks similar to the booklet, though a bit less polished.
In the booklet, the swamp water swirls around the two more. It also fixes some weird issues with the edge of the character sprite, again probably from separating them for the zoom effects. The booklet's version is much more defined, too, in the background especially, but it also changed the effect on the page from the dog-ear corner to nothing.
Next is True/False Lover, the epilogue, and last track on the album. Here it appears before Planet Desperation, which definitely messes with the timeline a bit (Chanticleer is still mad/dead).
Here is mostly more of the same except there's a minor animation error where the blur doesn't effect under chanticleer's hat for some reason.
Aside from that, it's just the perspective that has changed as well as the sizing of the cart and chairs. With Beolco, though, the floor seems to be covering his stomach giving him a malnourished look.
In both, his pompoms are red instead of pink like all other depictions. His pants also changed between versions and he's kicking his feet up rather than placing them solidly on the ground.
Finally, Planet Desperation has 2 shots because the song is very, very long!!
This is the best shot I can get of the first one, the framing is way different compared to the booklet!!
The booklet is composed much better I think, you can see more in the shot and it's more obvious what exactly is going on.
The same is true for the next shot, of Hyacinth dead in the river while The Accuser dances around him.
The main differences are the background, the perspective and the layout of the shot. You can see Parnassus itself way better in the booklet, as well as the different poses of The Accuser. Hyacinth also seems to be more obviously dead and laying against the river bank. Not directly relevant, but the length of the song is reflected by the fact that the sky has turned from bright blue to purple(dusk) in the time it has taken for him to die!! Nice touch I think.
As a bonus, there's this shot in the video that isn't used in the booklet. From left to right, the skull of the college bard from Equals, the fallen fish statue from Planet Desperation, the feather from Lady Gay Approximately, the Clearance Sticker from Reality, the medical bag from Gethsemane, the gunshot hole from The Catastrophe and another feather from Lady Gay Approximately.
