Fresh Artist Fridays: RIP LUX
RIP LUX is here to reinvent an old hip-hop sound with a modern day purpose. The Eastern-Europe based rapper is creating a unique sound for himself with the release of his politically-charged song “Masquerade’. RIP LUX describes his music as, “Dark 90's boom bap sound with a social/political message.” With powerful lyrics like, “It’s open season, you see the screens between us, holographic. The world’s a pageant full of actors, acting, pulling our strings on some black magic sh*t”, it’s not hard to receive the message RIP LUX is trying to send out. The song deals with themes of manipulation, truth, and ignorance, shouting at listeners to stop ignoring the writing on the wall.
The track is paired with visuals that are equally as thought-provoking and purposeful as its lyrics. The video opens with vintage clips of people literally drinking Kool-Aid, followed by shots of advertisements, capitalism, and consumerism. Clips of celebrity and wealth are placed right next to mundane images of reality. RIP LUX is asking viewers to wake-up and look past the facade, peeling back the masquerade and exposing truths about the world we live in.

throws a rock at
the rock soars towards him then stops. Only to float upwards and above his head as he continued to dance. Not even noticing
