If you spent your hard-earned money on The Beatles Anthology 4, send me your address, and I'll get a sympathy card out to you asap. At this point it's clear the remaining Beatles, Paul and Ringo, have checked out where any quality control is concerned on these box sets, and reissues, and The Beatles' catalog is now in the hands of "the estates" of John Lennon, and George Harrison, and the accountants and lawyers who tend to Paul's and Ringo's business affairs. I refuse to believe Paul or Ringo signed off on this rip-off of a release. Thirty-six tracks spread over three LPs or CDs, and only 13 of them are unreleased. And none of those 13 is essential or important or illuminating in any way. They're mostly unfinished outtakes, rejects filled with mistakes and breakdowns - the kinds of things you'd listen to once, and shelve. As for the remixed versions of "Free As A Bird", and "Real Love" they're really wretched sounding. They were cobbled together to begin with. Why would they go back, and start tinkering with them thirty years later, you ask? I can only conclude that all of those involved - Paul and Ringo and the estates of dead John, and dead George are in dire financial straits, and in need of money so that their heirs will not wind up homeless. So, if you buy it, you may be able to write it off on your tax return as a charitable contribution. (Be sure and save your receipt. And if the I.R.S. man questions it, just play the thing for him.) As for me, I streamed it free on YouTube. If you must hear it, do that, and spend your money on heating your home this winter, or feeding your poor starving children. Family first, and all that. I'm already embarrassed to be an American, thanks to our lawless government. Must I now be embarrassed to be a Beatles' fan, too? Enough!
