A year ago today we filmed the music video for “Savior”. I was quite nervous, but determined to make it come together and had a wonderful team in place to make it happen. The whole time I was thinking “What would Chester do?” Not realizing it was the anniversary of his death. That day I did my best to channel his energy along with so many of my idols, some still with us and some not. At that point 2019 was really looking great and I was enjoying myself... that wasn’t the case for the second half of the year. As someone who has suffered greatly at the hand of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation I wanted to use this post as an opportunity to spread awareness. It took me months until I couldn’t stand to live in the state I was in anymore, it came out it no where. Mainly in the form of burn out, I had to change my life drastically to get my brain healthy again. Many people have told me “You seem fine”. Well, some of us who suffer are masters as hiding it. If you’re anything like me I ask you to find what strength you have in you to reach out and get the help you need. This is the only life you have and you’re worthy of living it with as little suffering as possible. I survived, Chester didn’t. And it’s a reminder every day to be grateful when I wake up in the morning. It’s a reminder that I’m still able to make art. It’s a reminder that some days will be harder than others, but there are people who care about you and you can find relief and learn coping skills to utilize when you get worn down again. Some people scold me and roll their eyes when I make posts like this: You’re part of the problem and best ignored. It’s hard for me to listen to Linkin Park songs since his departure. Part of me is excited to hear the music that has shaped me as a songwriter, but there also lingers a sadness that mourns Chester not being with us anymore. Today I’d like to take a moment to remember him in all his greatness and as a voice who changed our generation. Today I celebrate all the beautiful art he left for us. 1 year ago... Still feels unreal that it happened... 😢 Although I didn't follow their career after the first 2 albums, I checked what they were doing from time to time. So, it was a shock when I open the TV and saw the news one year ago...
