Its nothing better than catching your first loop. The first record I looped was “ Only for One Night” by Luther Vandross. I looped it on my Gemini mixer and dubbed it on a tape. I used put a microphone from my Karaoke Machine next to this small speaker and record it into a cassette. About a month later I hear Jermaine Dupree yelling “Y’all know what this is” as Bow Wow and Omarion blazed the charts with that same sample. It was the coolest thing to me to know that I had the same idea as JD. It also taught me that if I was going to sample, they had to be rare and chopped in a way that could only be linked to me. A few months later I was introduced to Donuts and nothing was the same. #RipDilla My first flip that any rapped on was “Inner City Blues by Marvin Gaye, this was the first beat I made that someone felt was dope enough to write to.
