RIP Marius, this poor baby giraffe was killed because his genes were not needed in the zoo and to prevent giraffe inbreeding. Not only is the Copenhagen Zoo disgusting but the fact that people dealing with the situation thought they could decide whether Marius could live or not really pisses me off. Animals shouldn't be kept in captivity, humans don't know what's best and can't provide them with what they need. Marius should have never been in captivity to begin with, no animal should be. Humans need to respect nature and wild animals and not think they always know best. Offers were placed to give the giraffe a better home, and still they continued with the murder. Not only was it inhumane but the body was put infront of children. If the reasoning behind zoos is to educate children should we really be educating them by displaying the disgusting human destruction that we put on the ecosystem. Then with the body of this baby giraffe they cut it up and fed it to lions. This to me comes off as terribly disrespectful, yes some people might think it was not wasteful and good for the lions. But honestly, after killing a two year old giraffe for the WORST reasons possible the Copenhagen Zoo fed poor Marius's body to lions. This innocent giraffe, that should be in the wild, was murdered and the scientists at the zoo got to decide that. I feel so many better things could have been done and if humans are really going to continue keeping animals in captivity better things need to happen. This is completely unacceptable. RIP Marius, you deserved better.
