To the girls who said I wasn't "black enough"...
You don't think I should care about what's happened in Ferguson or in New York because I am not "black enough?" Not only is that an ignorant statement, But as long as I continue to get called the N word on my campus of education... But as long as I, and my other brothers and sisters are stopped for looking suspicious because of what we wear or what car we drive.. But as long as I am told that I wear a weave and look scary for wearing my hair natural... But as long as certain cops who use intruding method take a life away when the situations could have been handled differently..: But as long as video cameras catch my brothers and sisters hurting because they are beaten and bruised, chocked and abused... But as long as assumptions and stereotypes are made.. But no drugs, alcohol, and guns are found.. But as long as people are left with lost loved ones; including brothers, sisters and children I'll stand.. I will stand with them. I've experienced enough racial tension from some cops and people a like that do not take the time to realize I'm not a threat. I'm not carrying anything. I'm a person. My heart breaks for the family of Eric Garner, Mike Brown etc. Because they are my brothers. No, not every cop or while person is ignorant or foolish. I acknowledge that. And I'm blessed by the cops I look up to who have invested in me. No one is saying good cops don't exist. Nor are we saying the media has focused on don't have jaded pasts! We all do! But for those who have said that that these situations don't matter or that I don't have a voice because I wasn't there. I'll tell you this is a long standing issue within the community I identify with. As it is with many communities. As a law abiding citizen though some things have still stayed the same... Something must be done. And until something is done, I'll continue to do just that.
