De Salses a Guardamar i de Fraga a l’Alguer: les comarques de parla catalana una a una. 13/88: el Ripollès (Comarques Gironines, Catalonia).
Ripollès is named after its capital city Ripoll, and is located at the South slopes of the Eastern Pyrenee mountains of Catalonia.
This shire is important for its role in the history of the formation of Catalonia in the Middle Ages as well as for its Romanesque architecture. One of the symbols of the origins of Catalonia is found in Ripoll: the Monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll, which was built from the 9th to the 12th century, partially destroyed in the early 19th century and rebuilt in the mid 19th century. The first female monastery of Catalonia, the Monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses from the 9th century, is also in this shire.

The cover of the Ripoll church can be considered the largest work of Catalan Romanesque sculpture. Probably made in the 2nd quarter of the 12th century, Gilabertus is targeted as an author for his style.
