The lack of numbered game terms seemed to actually happen around Fates iirc, and not Three Houses? The newest game I’ve seen regularly numbered still is is Awakening, past that people didn’t really bother, for a number of reasons I think? I seem to recall some people not knowing if the different routes of Fates should be counted as separate numbered installments, and also some couldn’t decide if they wanted to count Shadows of Valentia in the numbered system either (despite 11/12 being counted?), so 14 and onwards just… never really got used as terms regularly
That's true, although I seem to recall a more even divide between people labelling FE14 as FE14 vs FE Fates/Conquest/Birthright. Etc. Same with FE15, I do remember that debate about whether a remake should count towards the numbering (although I honestly don't know why that was up for debate lol), but I think it was pretty evenly tagged between FE15 and FE:SOV.
It feels like with FE16 almost everyone tags it as FE3H, which I guess is the reason it sticks out to me. But yeah, there definitely has not been much consistency with the system since Awakening.
