First, thank you for all that you do for the community. You are a role model for aspiring judges! My question is: if Mairsil the Pretender gains the activated ability of Riptide Replicator, and acquired some charge counters through other means, will Riptide Replicator's ability be able to produce tokens, even though a creature type and color were never chosen?

Mairsil doesn’t have Riptide Replicator’s “choose a color and creature type” ability. When Mairsil uses Riptide Replicator’s ability, there’s no color or type chosen and so the token will be colorless with no creature types.

Topi’s Daily Card #1033:  Riptide Replicator

This old artifact is one of those weird cards that has a bit of an expensive cost, but can do some pretty cool things.  The card uses charge counters, and for for mana you’ll get a creature token of your choice and color with power equal to those charge counters.  If you’re making just 1/1s or 2/2 creatures the card isn’t too amazing.  It’s when you’re dropping 5/5 creatures or higher and your deck has that matching tribal component is when this artifact really takes off.  Add to the fact that proliferate can make your tokens even stronger can make this card a consideration if you want a little more jank to your tribal decks.  And a neat thing with the art?  The Replicator is making a Metallic Sliver.

Had a question about Riptide Replicator and Volrath's Laboratory. When they say creature type and you pick scarecrows are they also artifact creatures or just scare crows.

The tokens are just creature tokens. They’re not artifacts.

Specific creature types can’t and don’t have any rules baggage tied to them. Simply being a Wall doesn’t a creature defender, nor does being a Golem or Scarecrow make it automatically an artifact, and I could go on for a while here...
