Helter Skelter (2012)
I don't know if it's very common or I just haven't read many reviews about it. But books about women going crazy or having an insane mentality give me such a strange feeling that I don't feel with any other type of theme, like "My Year of Rest and Relaxation," "Girl, Interrupted," "Helter Skelter," "The Bell Jar," "Sharp Objects," "The Virgin Suicides," "Black Swan," "Perfect Blue." The agony I feel about them is different; they never, ever have a single second of mental relief. Except for the virgin suicides, these women feel bad from the moment they become conscious. What it's like to live from the moment you wake up until you fall asleep again with a horrible weight on your heart and brain, without relief, without a single thread of momentary happiness or just not being in constant despair. There's no escaping your mind; they go crazy and goodbye. In "Sharp Objects," the protagonist almost made me give up reading and scream.
women with chronic pain, women get consumed, sick, and sick, and sick.
Sharp Objects won't be leaving my mind any time soon, but what a shame, it seems like I've gone numb after this book, completely exhausted.
