Modern Mystic Sister (Book Excerpt)
Dear sister,
My new year’s resolution is to publish my book (or at least get closer). Therefore, I can’t think of a better way to start this year than to share a piece of my book Path of Sacred She with you today. This excerpt is from Chapter 4, Modern Mysitc Sister. Enjoy!
I found an ancient Goddess
lying in the sand
she was chipped and broken
I didn’t know her name
yet there was a song, a stir, a murmur spun about her
how I longed to understand
how I wanted to make her story whole
I travelled the earth to get to know her
I asked the scholars and the professors
who is she?
they shrugged their shoulders just like me
With clay and imagination did I try to rebuild her
adding limbs and a face
but the result was ugly and wrong
I washed the clay away
I asked her, but the stone was silent
I cried and shook her
I told her I needed to know
At last I put her on my altar
just as she was
Sister, let me tell you a secret. With loss comes freedom.
The freedom to reinvent and redesign. To not walk in the footsteps of old. To stray away from the path, into the wilderness, and discover.
Let me tell you another secret. The loss of traditions isn’t something new. It is the deep universal way of change and renewal. It makes us human. It makes life.
So how will we reinvent ourselves as Sacred She’s in a time when the structures of many old traditions have crumbled and we have access to the inspiration of thousands of religions and cultures from all over the world?
Every sister must answer this question for herself. I offer the Path of Sacred She as a source of inspiration. As something to mix and mingle with your personal path, who you are and ultimately create something unique for you. I offer it as a starting point to explore life as sacred in a woman’s body. To view ourselves, our bodies and our lives as sacred. To rise up in dignity and self-respect, and to marvel at the female body and the magnificence of the divine, inside and out.
I offer it as a path to be a student of your own mystery.
