i just saw your headcanons for the dwarven holidays and first of all YES but i have something more about the rites of strength thingy: thorin got out in the first round. why? it was arm wrestling. he was all excited, had been working out for weeks. he got to the table, sat down, saw his opponent, and went oh, fuck me. because sitting across from him was his (little?) sister.
thorin doesn't talk about that. dís does. frequently. she takes every opportunity. bonus: kíli and fíli use it to shut thorin up when he gets too obnoxious.

i was actually thinking abt it as i was writing it, wondering if i should put that Thorin lost to Dís, and im so glad you brought it up.
Dís being stronger than Thorin (and Frerin too) is everything. like she came out of the birth canal jacked.
Thrain was a bit disappointed that the Heir of Durin didn't even make it past the first round but more than pleased that he was beat by another Durin... and that said Durin won the whole thing.
Also Fili and Kili and Dís together will never stop using it against Thorin. he can't say shit bcs they'll always be like "im sorry, but the person who got out in the first round of the rites of strength is telling us what to do? yeah didn't think so"
