Dwarvish and Hobbitish traditions mingle under the Lonely Mountain in the upcoming days of Yuletide. Somewhere amidst misunderstandings and cultural differences, love between Bilbo and Thorin starts to blossom and finally bear fruit.

Can’t people across the way see me?
Fíli hovered uncertainly in the doorway, swathed in a faded blue cotton yukata Kíli had tossed his way. He’d left his own clothes draped neatly over end of Kíli’s plain iron bedframe and his work boots standing guard nearby, completely unaware that they would find a permanent home there.
Kíli glanced up from sharpening his pencils with a small whittler’s knife. His eyes glittered with mischief. Only if they’re looking. Anyway, I need the light.

Another drawing intended for the sequel. Maybe one day ;)
This drawing is from this year and was the last one I needed to complete the set.
There will be one more drawing next weekend. ;)
Furiously working on my pieces for #TRSB26, but one story is absolutely breaking my heart to write. So, I’m taking a short emotional break from the angst and coping the only way I know how: cutesy headcanons!

「 Fíli 」
『-』 Fíli puts far more thought into the proposal than anyone expects. Despite his easy charm and playful nature, this is something he takes incredibly seriously.
『-』 He'd want it to be private and meaningful, not a public event.
『-』 He'd spend weeks leading up to the day asking everyone for advice.
『-』 The ring would be something he crafted himself, something symbolic for your story together.
『-』 The proposal location would be something special and meaningful, maybe a spot that holds memories for the two of you.
『-』 When the moment comes, he'd start confidently and then immediately become nervous. The once well rehearsed speech? Gone.
『-』 He'd be smiling the entire time, but his hands would absolutely be shaking.
「 Kíli 」
『-』 Kíli absolutely y intends to plan something romantic.
『-』 Unfortunately, everyone knows he's proposing before you do because he's terrible at keeping secrets. Fíli knows. Bofur knows. Bombur knows. Bilbo knows. Honestly, at this point it’s kind of shocking that you don’t know.
『-』 His proposal is spontaneous, he'd suddenly realize there's no perfect moment except this one.
『-』 The ring would be a family heirloom, something passed down to him from Dís.
『-』 He's grinning nervously, trying to joke to hide how terrified he is.
『-』 When you say yes, he'd laugh in disbelief, pick you up in a hug, and immediately run off to tell everyone. He’s definitely shouting it down the halls before you've even finished putting on the ring.
「 Thorin 」
『-』 Thorin would approach a proposal with the gravity and dignity of a king (ofc)
『-』 He'd only propose when he was certain.
『-』 The ring would masterpiece forged specifically for you.
『-』 Follows tradition religiously and would definitely seek the blessing of those closest to him and you.
『-』 His proposal wouldn't be overly elaborate but every word would come straight from the heart.
『-』 Thorin isn't one to kneel dramatically. He'd simply hold your hands in both of his, looking at you with that intense, unwavering gaze of his.

* Fíli: Smiles so brightly that everyone notices. He kisses your forehead and spends the rest of the day looking dazed with happiness.
* Kíli: Has the entire mountain celebrating by sunset and insists on telling the story of the proposal to anyone who will listen.
* Thorin: Holds you close and quietly thanks Mahal for bringing you into his life. He might actually laugh and rest his forehead against yours for a quiet moment before telling everyone.

new fic! (also probably the first i have been semi proud of)
post canon, everyone lives
Fili is having nightmares, being haunted by the pale orc that almost killed his family but at least he has his uncle
rewatched the 2 ish heart wrenching minutes in battle of the five armies when thorin breaks out of the goldsickness and returns to the company. and ive never much liked how fili is excluded from the moment with thorin and kili but! i did notice that when thorin turns to speak to the company his eyes at first seem fixated on one point in particular. when he says "will you follow me," he looks like he's talking to one dwarf in particular, and only shifts his gaze to the rest when he adds, "one last time." and considering the placement it could very well be fili. thorin and fili are both centred when the camera shifts perspectives but we also get this shot:
(pls excuse the shit quality i'm doing my best) where we see that, even though they are both centred in the 2 perspective shifts during the scene, fili is actually standing slightly off centre from thorin in the line of dwarves. the dwarf most centred in the line is probably nori.
despite this, though, when the camera shifts perspective, we get this shot
where fili's centered (more or less), immediately making him the focal point of our view--and because the camera is following thorin's (and kili's and dwalin's i guess) view, fili is positioned as the focal point of thorin's attention. he's addressing the whole company, but he's focusing on fili in particular
and LOOK at the way thorin's face changes as he speaks. when he asks, "will you follow me," he looks like this:
but this is when he continues to add, "one last time":
it's so subtle but his gaze shifts just slightly. at the beginning of his line, his gaze is off centre, shifted in the direction where fili stands. (and over his shoulder in the second image, you can see kili doing the same). it's only as he finishes speaking that his gaze shifts to the centre, addressing the company as a whole.
thorin is too far away when he's walking up to the company from his moment with kili to see exactly where he's looking, but i'd wager that he was looking at fili all the time
and when the other dwarves agree to follow thorin into battle they signal this by taking battle ready stances of a sort: standing up tall and grasping their weapons. except for fili, who stands in the centre of the frame and only slightly nods a few times with *so* much emotion on his face, never taking his eyes off thorin
(look at him. he looks so kind <3)
and i keep thinking about the "i belong with my brother scene" (arguably my favourite scene) and how the last fili (and kili) saw of their uncle before reaching erebor was thorin abandoning an injured kili for the quest, and asking fili to do the same. and the movie doesn't show much of fili and kili's return to erebor but considering the gold sickness thorin is already grappling with, and considering his conversation with bilbo where thorin says he suspects all the dwarves of betrayal AND his conversation with dwalin where he threatens to kill his close friend, we can assume that thorin didn't show much care for his nephews' return. i doubt he even asked about kili's health at all, nevermind that they had both been in laketown when smaug burned it down. so while all the dwarves have reason to distrust thorin, or feel betrayed or abandoned by him, i think fili (and kili) have more reason than most
obviously i'm just throwing out interpretations here re where they are both looking and what that means but. thorin asked fili to abandon his brother for erebor and fili refused. and thorin then went on (while gold sick) to abandon not only the company but numerous other dwarves in battle. thorin failed his kin and company in a way that fili did not. and i think it makes so much thematic sense that, while thorin is addressing everyone in this speech, he is especially addressing fili, his nephew and heir, who succeeded where thorin failed, and whose forgiveness and faith mean so much more because of it
