Inspired by @soaringsummerbird contemplate the Worm Question, have Ritsume food. ♡

It's a cold autumn day, Natsume is on his floor writing out their next live plans. His feet tap occasionally in thought to a rhythm only he can hear. Ritsu is on the bed, laying on his stomach watching… waiting. He is getting tired and Natsume looks like he's about to reach a road block, so Ritsu kindly steps in to stave off the inevitable crash out. "Natsume~" at the very least he looks up at his playful call, "Come here." He holds his hands out invitingly, opening and closing them needily.

His gaze clears briefly, blinking and he hums in acknowledgment before looking back down, "I'm nearly donE, kitteN." Ritsu’s hands drop and he pouts.

“You're not gonna get anything done like that…” Ritsu sighs when his stubborn magician only hums in acknowledgment. He rolls sideways on the bed, wrapping himself in a layer of blankets. “I'm all alone over here and in need of attention..!”

“I am certain you will not perisH,” his brow furrows and he crosses out a line, “Promise I'll come to bed soON…” he mumbles something else, getting more frustrated that his concentration breaks.

Ritsu whines and slides off the bed in a slinky like fashion. Even laying on the floor, he cannot seem to get Natsume’s attention. The stress he's been under has been wrecking their whole schedule. He hasn't truly relaxed in days. Wiggling a little, Ritsu gets an idea and attempts to slither over, which takes more effort than he anticipated.

Somehow Natsume doesn't anticipate worm Ritsu to just drop himself over his lap. “Ritsu- wh..what are you doing?”

The frustration vanishes within moments as an exasperated grin comes through with a raised brow. “Nat-chi~ would you still love me if I were a worm?” With big eyes and a pout he wiggles a bit, ensuring that he is the only thing keeping the witches attention.

Hands hover over the blanket cocoon trying to find somewhere to grab hold of him. “If you were a worM…? What kind of worm would you bE?” he eventually settles for draping his arms around the bundle. “Are you the common earthworM? Living in my garden to ensure the soil remains healthY?”

Ritsu scrunches his nose, “That's not exactly what I was picturing…”

“No? Then perhaps a heartworm - wiggling around inside of my ventircleS?”

“Don't those kill dogs? They're parasites!"

Natsume chuckles, “Then a bloodworm since you'rE-”

“That's not even creative anymore.”

“Then perhaps a tapeworM?”

“Natsuumee!” He pouts, for some reason upset that he's now being teased, despite starting this line of questioning. Why does he feel disappointed? Ritsu tries to bury himself in the blanket, now trapped in his arms.

“Hey,” he cradles Ritsu’s face and smiles softly, “You… you're more like a silk worM-” exasperated, Ritsu huffs in indignation “-not so much a worM… but a critter preparing to metamorphose into something morE. While even just by existing and living you spin siLK. A gift and cherished treasurRE…”

The look in his eyes makes Ritsu's heart squeeze. He didn't expect this. “So, oF coursE I'd stiLL love yOU. I would give you a nice enclosure and make sure you groW to be a lovely motH, passing on the gift of wisdom to all who cross yOU.” Now he's blushing lightly, Natsume can really catch him off guard when he wants to utilize his full charm.

“Hmph..” his pouty retaliation is weak at best, “I suppose that's a good answer.”

“Well, would you still love mE?”

“...No. I'd be a bird and eat you.” Then quickly untangles himself and lunges at Natsume. Wrapping arms around his neck and doing exactly that. The laughter brings a lightness to the witch's eyes again that had been dim. They devolve into fitfuls of giggles, sharing brief kisses between each laugh.

“I think I'd let you eat mE.”

“You are quite tasty~” biting at his cheek with a sly grin, “But I'd prefer dinner in bed anyway…” he nuzzles close. “Please come lay down…”

Arms wrap around Ritsu as Natsume takes a deep breath of him, “Alright kitteN, you wiN.”

“Hehehe..♡ I always do~ it'll be good for you to learn that now.” Natsume's laugh turns into a yawn which Ritsu then mirrors. Natsume stands up with him and the knight drags him to bed, collapsing in a heap. He pulls the little vampire tight against his chest, nuzzling against his neck with a sigh. Ritsu grabs his hands as he squeezes, sharing in their adoration.

I find it so incredibly ironic and hot of Ritsu to bare his neck and collarbone like That .

🫂 What’s their favorite way to hold each other when words aren’t enough?

Oh this one hits hard. I can picture Natsume as the type to cling when he needs it. So Ritsu in his lap an arm around his waist and the other buried in his hair, nestled into his neck to smell him. Just holding on so so so tight. Ritsu likes to be held when he needs it, wants to be small and lay down to curl up. Head to his chest and legs intertwined, wrapped in each others arms.

🎂 How do they celebrate each other’s birthdays?

Natsume would throw Ritsu a party, ensuring that his closest friends (except Eichi) are there for him even if he has (some) contention with them. There would be good hangouts and games as well as a moment to themselves so Natsume can give him his gift. Would dote on him all day (more than usual) and just give him anything he wants. Its a long birthday celebration but Ritsu enjoys every moment.

Ritsu would take time to plan an outing for them. Perhaps to the planetarium or a museum where Natsume can chatter at him about the things he loves. He would bake him something special and do dinner out. A day of celebrating Natsume for who he is. Natsume always seems surprised when this happens and just expresses how much he adores Ritsu whenever he can.

🌸 What nickname do they have for each other that would mortify them if others heard?

...Nya~tsume. Enough said.

I think he would only use it to convince Ritsu of something, like pleading with puppy dog eyes of like Riri~

🫂 What’s their favorite way to hold each other when words aren’t enough?

Natsume would want to lay in his lap, I think, with his head down and eyes closed while Eichi plays with his hair. He wants that gentle comfort for a longer period of time so he wants Eichi to be comfortable.

Tight hug, pressure. Perhaps Natsume straddling him and holding him tight while Eichi clings to his waist. Natsume would rest his head on Eichi's and just run his hands down his back until he feels the arms loosen he won't let go.

🎂 How do they celebrate each other’s birthdays?

Eichi would spoil Natsume by taking him to a grand show he's always wanted to see or to get a private tour somewhere. At first Natsume is really apprehensive and embarrassed but then gets too excited to remember to be humble. Eichi gets to use his wealth and watch fondly while Natsume gets extremely excited.

Natsume would struggle to find something, what doesn't Eichi have??? He would plan for days to try and surprise him because it isn't often Eichi can truly be surprised. Perhaps finding something unique in town that is so under the radar Eichi wouldn't have ever considered it. A private show, a speakeasy, or an old cinema.

🌸 What nickname do they have for each other that would mortify them if others heard?

Eichi calls him Natsuki when he's feeling particularly sappy as a way to express how much of a dream it all is that they ended up together. Its hopeful in a way that always makes Natsume blush even when they're alone so he doesn't use it often lest it lose its power.

Difficult one. Nicknames are hard in general I really struggled with this but I think with Eichi if Natsume used any of the traditional endearments in public like 'beloved' or 'darling' it would embarrass him to be seen by others that way since he has such a fight to be seen as respected. To really fluster him I think he would call him "my lord" in a really honey sweet tone. Its one thing to be called that and be respected but for some reason when Natsume does it, it flusters him. He can't explain it well either.

🌹: Who fell first and who fell harder?

Ritsu fell first and Natsume fell harder. Ritsu has always been very open with the way he feels, between the openness and care he shows Knights and the vitriol he expresses so publically about Rei - its easy. So he very quickly realizes when his feelings go from playful to something More. Then thats when he gets more persistent.

Natsume is very closed off initially and in denial most of the time. But once it hits him that he cares it would scare him, send him spiraling at first. That fear of failing or getting left on the forefront of his mind while Ritsu is just fluttering around him flaunting his admiration. Then he would crash into the emotions and cling onto Ritsu with a fervor that might even surprise Ritsu.

💔: What's a fight that almost ended them?

It would've been about Rei. It probably started on accident, an argument started from a text from Rei to Natsume about a memory. Or an old photo. Then Ritsu would get defensive and frustrated that theyre so close. It likely happens early on that they argue about it, since Natsume looks up to Rei and has such a hard past. Ritsu would say how his brother abandoned him and the hurt that left him so bitter still affects him. Natsume would get angry at "abandoned" and try to argue with him. Rei sacrificed everything for everyone, how could he say that? Natsume is a volatile anger type and would likely walk away, but only after he said things that would be hurtful. Ritsu would be a mess, trying to analyze where he went wrong or how he didn't see this conflict sooner. They were just having fun, when did it get so real?

Natsume is stubborn and stands by his opinions. Until hes about to lose someone. With a terrifying thought he realizes he doesn't want to lose Ritsu, is terrified of that fact, doesn't sleep for days likely. Until he leaves a note to Ritsu, allowing him to choose to talk again or not. Ritsu would come hackles raised and defenses up until Natsume cries on sight and apologizes. Then he talks about it, really talks about the war and what happened. They talk for hours, long into the night and then day. Ritsu finally telling him why he has so much anger towards his brother and eventually they piece together what really happened with Rei... they'd fall asleep in a bundle of blankets mid conversation, both so relieved from the weight lifted that they just don't even realize theyre falling asleep. I like to imagine their convo making less and less sense... until boop. Sleep. Anyway-

🍳: Who cooks and who sets off the smoke alarm trying to help?

Natsume cooks usually, being the one with a keen eye for shoving shit together. Ritsu does the baking. I think Ritsu srts off the alarm though with how much of a dramatic and terrifying visual he wants the goods to have. I think if they worked together they'd make a pretty solid feast.

😏: Who is bolder in public?

Ritsuuuuu the boy doesn't give a care in the world if anyone else sees them. (Minus the idol fear) but since hes already so naturally physical with Natsume he lovessss to embarrass him. Watching him get nervous and flustered at something as simple as grabbing his hand or sticking his hand in his back pocket. It gives him endless entertainment.

🎤: Who sings in the shower and who records it for blackmail?

Ritsu sings in the shower, especially when hes in a good mood. Natsume records it as an effort to blackmail him but Ritsu is so casual about it that Natsume eventually gives up. His voice is so pretty that any "princesses" would die to get their hands on it. That and Arashi or Izumi might try to hurt him.

🌿: Do they want kids/pets/plants? What do they name them?

Since Natsume already has two kitties (Charbon and Cotton) Ritsu takes to them pretty easily. I can see Ritsu taking naps at Natsume’s and the kitties come to nap with him. It nearly kills Natsume the first time it happens (god so cute help). I think they might want a child after theyre both retired. Naming them though..... gosh. Maybe Aiko/Reina for a girl and Haruto/Akimitsu..... child names are so hard but I like it when they've got a little meaning behind it.

Ill never write it bc theres too many wip but rewatching House has stuck a cute romcom style meet cute for Ritsume.....

Young, new resident, Dr. Sakasaki doing his rounds when Ritsu wanders in for his monthly checkup (sick obviously, in this case im picturing some sort of anemic off shoot where its rare or unique i tried to look one up but theyre all a bit wild) and so Rei pushes he goes consistently. To get him off his back (hes paying anyway) he goes.

At first, it's normal check up, Natsume doesn't even bat an eye as a hardworking, focused guy with a point to prove. So despite a little flirt on Ritsu’s end, it ends with a see you next month, Goodbye.

Besides a little rejected Ritsu returns and Rei asks about the visit he mentions new doctor and whaaat oh I knew that boy in college we were in theater together or something to pinpoint his oddities. This intrigues Ritsu a little more, now he has info on him and a way to get under Reis skin and find some info out about him.

Slow burn style, eventually one month Ritsu finally catches his eye with something he said. Whether it be about magic or his past as a dviniator (under a pseudonym) and now hes suspicious. Now the games begin~ its back and forth for a long time, its a light to his month to see the charming boy who likes to say hes a vampire.

Gasp it takes a turn for a worse! He gets very sick and ends up icu bound and out for a few days. Rei finally comes in and Natsume makes the connection. They chat for awhile and eventually a tearful pleading from rei to help him etc etc. Eventually rei goes home and Natsume agrees. Not that he wasnt going to anyway. So he sits by his bed and monitors his vitals. Talks to him while hes out, answer some questions hes been asking. Casts 'spells' of healing on him till he finally comes back around.

Says something cheesy like good morning kitten you know? But ritsu heard a little bit of what he said and is now *attached* to him. He eventually recovers and isnt in the hospital all the time. Starts to visit anyway. More back and forth but Natsume pushes back and away, this is too much too quickly and now hes very anxious about getting close to anyone especially someone connected to his past.

So hes not as kind or charming but he does his job. Ritsu doesnt take the hint and it becomes completely one sided. He gets depressed and that leads to a dip in his health. Theres more back and forth up and down, ritsu is back in icu.

Another few days and Natsume is now worried for real and eventually maybe he gets drinks with an old college friend (shu, Kanata, wataru) and they talk him into trusting again. This time when ritsu wakes up hes there and back to his usual self. He gets him back enough to check him out and ritsu goes home.

Next time he comes in, different doctor. Ritsu is sad where's Natsume? Doesn't see him the whole shift. Quite disappointed Ritsu leaves dejected but there is someone leaning on the wall with a bouquet of red roses (hes a stupid romantic when he wants to be) and says something stupid "ready for your follow up?" And then they go on date and its good and cute and gushgushgush
