Rival Magic✨💜
If it were objective, my favorite books of the year list would include Rival Magic because it is that good (up there with Aristotle and Dante good). But it's not objective and that book made me incredibly sad, so it's not going on the list.
Rival Magic was a better book, but I enjoyed Nightingale more.
Meanwhile Rival Magic really has stuck with me.
Also, Rival Magic is full of charming whimsy that makes me smile AND has likeable characters.
Still thinking about how good Rival Magic was.
One thing about Rival Magic is that most of the characters are female. Both protagonists, many antagonists and minor villains, most leaders. And every single one of them is nuanced and different. The few male characters, by comparison, are not as deep. Not that they’re badly written. Just less explored.
This must be what it feels like to consume media as a boy.
