I met an amazing man today. His name is Rivar Vail, and he's a dewott. I'll start from the beginning so I don't get too off track gushing over him. When I met him, I didn't make a very good impression... I was getting over the sceptile incident, and I was hiding in the closet when Zar'roc brought him to my room to meet me. I was crying to myself and scared of him...but he was patient with me and waited for Zar'roc to calm me down a bit and lay beside me. I always feel safer when Zar'roc is with me. I mean, I asked some odd questions as well...I asked him if he felt safe. He said he never felt safe, and he expected the unexpected these days, and then he asked me me if I felt safe. I do...with daddy, but he's not always there for me, and I sometimes I fail when he counts on me. He asked me my age, I said I was 12, and then he told me a little about himself. He's 22, and been through three years of intensive training, and kids shouldn't be put in life-threatening situations. I protested a bit, but then he asked me if I wanted to be a hero. I was surprised, but I said yes. Then he asked me what being a hero means. I told him a hero is someone brave and strong who can stand up to anything. They fight to protect other people. People like them...even if they don't win. He agreed...but his definition was different. I remember every word of it. "That is what I would say in my term...but in another way, a hero is someone who is ready to give their life if it is what it takes to protect others and never back down from it. No matter if they are afraid or not. But you are at a young age Kaza...you aren't ready for such a thing." Then he patted me on the head. Then I asked if he was a hero. He didn't answer for a while...and he said he didn't think so. He was ready to give his life for others, but he didn't think other people liked him very much. Now that just couldn't be true! It couldn't! I told him he was a hero! He didn't seem to agree, and said I should focus on myself if I wanted to be a hero. Then daddy started talking with him and said he could be a role model for me. Rivar didn't agree, but after some talking, he said that Zar'roc won and he wouldn't argue the point. Daddy was always great at talking. Then we went over to visit Rivar's house. I rode on Daddy's back. Apparently he had a lot of friends there. Then a guy flew in, a Thomas flew in. I don't really remember his species off the top of my head. A small red and blue bird...needless to say, I was a little intimidated by this stranger. Oh! Rivar knows how to make pancakes also. He made some for me and Zar'roc. Still, Zar'roc teased me a little about wanting to go to Rivar's room...it was nothing like that. Rivar didn't catch on right away, but he did...still, I'm happy he didn't tease me either. I asked him what he does in his spare time, and he says he likes to meditate. I...never tried it before, so he explained it to me. It sounded nice. Thinking about things and calming your mind. It takes a lot of practice to actually do it. After I tried, I asked him if he could teach me. I was happy, but asked why he came to Andalusst. He said it was a bit complicated, and he just wanted a fresh start. We talked some more, and then he started asking about me. Nothing much to report. Zar'roc found me under a tree three years ago, and nowhere near the fog. Nobody in any of the nearby villages had reported a missing child, or had ever seen me. After that, we talked some more, we hugged...he really seems to like me, and I like him too...I don't remember falling asleep, but I must have, because next thing I knew, the sun was a lot lower in the sky, and daddy looked amused. Rivar had put me in his bed. Oh gosh...I didn't wanna inconvenience him...oh well. I'll have to say sorry when we meet again.
