Itchen
March end of month post 2 of 3: Ten of my favourite landscape and sky photos I took this month at Andrew's Mare in the New Forest, Lepe, Pennington, the nearly full worm moon at home, Fishlake Meadows, view on a boat trip along the Beaulieu River, Hayling Island on a lovely sunny day, evening walk at Lakeside Country Park, Testwood Lakes and the River Itchen at the Weirs, Winchester.
I took in some beautiful places and scenes this month and it was great to see it get lighter and lighter allowing more time outdoors in my week. Last night part 1 of these posts went out with ten of my favourite plant and fungi photos from this month and tomorrow night is the final one with ten of my favourite wildlife photos I took this month.
15/02/2024-Winchester, Lakeside and home
Photos taken in this set are of; an enchanting early spring floral display of snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils at Winchester Cathedral which was a sight to behold, views at Winchester Cathedral including blossom, a Peregrine probably Winnie at Winchester Cathedral it was great to see her again, Carrion Crow at Winchester Cathedral, one of a couple of colourful Feral Pigeons it was nice to see beside the River Itchen, moon this evening, one of a fair few intricate and stunning sky scenes to take in today this morning and pink blossom emerging out the back this morning.
It was also memorable to see my first snowflakes of the year by the river notably early I'm not sure I'd ever seen snowflakes and the similar snowdrops on the same day before with hyacinths seen nicely again too. Other highlights today included two more crows at the cathedral Magpie and Jackdaw, Woodpigeon, Mallards at Abbey Gardens, House Sparrows in the allotment hedge by Lakeside this morning, Blackbird singing so wonderfully this evening in Winchester, periwinkle and daisy.
Some of my favourite photos I took in July 2024 and month summary post 3 of 3: Landscape and fungi
The photos in this set are at; Durlston, Rutland Water, sky at home, Lakeside Country Park, the River Itchen, Whitefield Moor in the New Forest and mushrooms at Martin Down. I took in so many breathtaking vistas this month from stunning coast to vast water body and lake scenes and rivers, heathland, vibrant meadow and rich woodland with epic summer skies observed too. It was nice to see a few mushrooms around as well.
11/10/23-Phone photo of beautiful cat mint in Abbey Gardens today, and six photos from this year not yet posted of; Clouded Yellow on Friday, Fox moth caterpillar at Thursley Common last month one of a fair few I've enjoyed seeing this year, a view at Pig Bush in the New Forest on Sunday, Silver-spotted Skipper at Old Winchester Hill in August, Spoonbill on Brownsea Island a couple of weeks ago and a beautiful Peacock butterfly on hemp agrimony at Winnall Moors on Saturday.
Today I also enjoyed seeing Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Woodpigeon, Feral Pigeon and Mute Swan and Mallard on the River Itchen, with Ring-necked Parakeets heard cutting across Lakeside and at the station as I got on the train and Robin singing a nice atmospheric opening to the day. Red Admiral, white clover, nice clumps of herb-Roberts beside the River Itchen at lunch time, ivy-leaved toadflax, forget-me-not, common mallow at Lakeside and stinking iris berries in Winchester were nice to see too.
29th May 2024-Water dropwort at the Weirs in Winchester, view at Lakeside Country Park, poppy in Winchester and the centre piece of glorious displays of colourful roses I enjoyed in Winchester today at Abbey Gardens.
Mallards wandering around the green in front of Winchester Cathedral, Woodpigeon, Jackdaw, House Sparrow, Goldfinches, Song Thrush heard, my first bindweed, broad-leaved willowherb and yarrow of the year, fox-and-cubs, red valerian and buttercups were other highlights today.
