China 2014. A view of the amazing limestone landforms across the river Li from a little waterfall in Yangshou. Unfortunately, also showcasing the terrible air quality
China 2014 coming to an end. The last of the limestone formations of the Guilin area of the Li RIver. Lovely colours and patterns on this one, and close enough that the air quility doesn’t ruin it. Plus, as always here, the parade of tourist boats.
China 2014. Maybe you are tiring of the River Li. But for me the formations were so fascinating I ended up selecting many of the images. This is a rarer long view afforded where the river curves and then continues straight, opening up the landscape. I also found the varieties of the vegetation on the sand banks near the river quite intriguing. Plus, this is one of the few views that make it look like I.m here alone. Haha.
China 2014. Down the river Li again. This view really does give a great view of both the amazing karst landforms and the almost as amazing tourist boat parade. At this point, we are at the Guilin start of the voyage. Sadly, as always on this trip, the air quality robs the landscape of some of its grandeur.
China 2014. Down the River Li and the amazing karst / limestone mountains. You can see here the way the river water erodes the rock plus the variety of vegetation, including the cypress pines and bamboo stands
China 2014. Once more, down the River Li. See the folk waiting for a local “water taxi” on the steps down. Gives you some idea of how much the river must rise and fall. And see how poor is the air quailty, as the nearby mountains try to retreat into the smog.
China 2014. More of the tourist boat parade on the River Li near Guilin and Yangshou
China 2014. An outlier limestone pillar on the river Li, just outside Yangshou.
