It's not that Luke is with Percy because he considers him to be particularly sane. In fact, his insanity is part of the appeal.
This, however, seems a little much.
"There's a magic time dilation hotel and we're going to get some kids from there who've been there since the thirties?" he asks.
"More or less," Percy answers, eyes scanning the hotels as they walk down the strip. "Aren't you happier when you don't ask questions?"
Yes, not that he'll be telling Percy that. "And we're doing this why?"
"The barrier to the underworld surrounding and protecting the camp, mostly," he answers.
Why does he even bother. "Okay. Great. Any chance that we'll be able to resume our vacation after leaving the magic casino?"
Percy seems to seriously consider that for a moment before saying, "Low."
Uhg. It had been a fun three days anyway.
"Here," Percy says, standing in front of an alleyway that looks more like a prime location to get hepatitis than the entrance to a magic casino. "Let your eyes unfocus a little bit, that helps. It's usually trapping distracted kids and drunk adults."
Luke huffs, but does his best.
One moment it's a dirty alleyway, the next there's a shining entryway with lotuses carved into it and way too much bronze to be mortal made. "Woah."
"Told you," Percy says, then grabs his hand. "Make sure you don't let go. I've got some resistance to getting distracted, but I don't want to have to go looking for you in there too."
Luke slips his fingers through Percy's and squeezes tight. At least there's one upside to all this.
