My cousins used to have an original gilligans Island table at their house!
okay even though it’s gilligan’s island having a table at your house is pretty sweet
i followed you because you kept showing up on my dashboard and every time you did i'd think 'who is this portrait artist, they work really well with this model' and it turned out they were one and the same
ahhh. thats so awesome
Happy birthday !!!
Thank you!
Happy...not your birthday!!!
I've just spent a happy hour reading your blog (your actual blog not your tumblr), I reeeeaally like it. I dunno I tried to explain why exactly but I'm not smart enough/a little tipsy, but I enjoy reading it a lot
Cool! (I assume you're referring to Part and Palimpsest? I haven't posted there in a while so I think of this as my "actual blog" now, I guess)
I was group-blogging there with some college friends and sort of felt like my posts never quite fit into the gestalt there, especially the book reviews, which I just ended up copy-pasting into my Goodreads account when I got one a little while later. So if you liked the book reviews from that blog, you might also like my book reviews from Goodreads
(Some of them are years old and I would probably not endorse them now, but that goes for the blog too)
Melbourne was my favourite city in Australia have fun!
thank you! it's my fave place in the whole world i am v excited :)
Also people approach things like the trolley problem backwards. The point is not to use them to /construct/ a moral framework, it's that (if, as most people do) you think there is a difference between the situations, you must /already/ have some framework which distinguishes them. The point is to tease out distinctions in people's ethical thinking which they already hold but may not have considered before.
That's definitely their most basic purpose, but isn't the point of that to get you a clearer sense of what your own intuitions are, so that you can build them into some sort of framework?
If thinking about Trolley Problems causes you to behave differently, it will have been because you've taken the things you've learned about your intuitions and applied them elsewhere -- in other words, made your own ethics more systematic.
(Medical student) re St John's wort: there have been a few studies that showed it to be as effective as antidepressants in mild-moderate depression (I'm not aware of any research with regard to PTSD). Two things to be aware of, though: (1) it indirectly speeds up the metabolism of many other drugs, so they may not work as well, and (2) the concentration in preparations can vary a lot. As with any drug, it would be best to talk to a doctor if you can access to one and feel you can discuss it
