( She loves flowers, loves flowers almost as much as life itself. Maybe more. She accepts the rose gingerly, running the tip of their wide thumb along a petal, still dormant with youth, not yet completely bloomed.

They note its lavender colour and her mind immediately defines it for them-- enchantment, majesty. It means the bearer finds the receiver opulent and special, and signifies an interest to deepen their relationship. She’s smiling wider now, cheeks warming and growing red at the gesture. Igraine laughs nervously, realising they’ve gone quiet. Fix that. )

Seriously, thank you! Thank y’so so much! I love it! I love flowers! I’m g’nna put it in a vase on my desk an’ then press it when it dries out an’ keep it forever! ( Her excitement is practically an aura, shimmering off them like faerie dust. Too much? Igraine can’t tell. She’s smiling brightly enough to power an entire neighbourhood block and doesn’t think they want to stop. )

( Ice skating’s just like walking, right? Just like walking. Except there are, y’know, knives tied to your feet and the ground of sparkling pure white you’re supposed to be delicately gliding upon is deceptively, forbiddingly, unpleasantly slippery. I’m fine. I’m fine. I’m all right. This is jus’ dandy, Igraine thinks to herself, gripping the wall of the skating rink and awkwardly pushing themself alongside Melanie [ who seems to be doing fine without any physical support, much to their crushing embarrassment ] as best they can.

What a way to cap off a first date, finding out they’re not just wary of ice-skating, she’s goddamn terrified!! Igraine’s surprised they haven’t begun to cry just yet, shame and discomfort welling up inside her with dispatch.

She meets Melanie’s eyes and gives her a smile, probably more nerves than anything. She sounded so fantastic online and definitely is in person, and now they’ve made a laughingstock of themself. Great. Amazing. So much for second date potential. )

Sure is– nice, ice skating….
