No matter which type of chainmail you choose, you can be confident that you are getting a high-quality product that will provide you with ample protection.Today, there are many different types of chain mail available, each with its own advantages. All chainmail featured here is by Lord of Battles.
Butted Chainmail: Simple and economical, this chainmail is ideal for costume, LARP or anyone on a budget. The mail is constructed with open rings which are butted end to end individually. Cost savings are substantial for this chainmail type, but if you need a more historical appearance for authenticity or need something that will stand up to the greater movement requirements of reenactment combat than you should look towards riveted mail instead.
Dome Riveted Chainmail: Ideal for all chainmail needs from the Viking Era to the High Medieval Period, this mail is constructed from rings which have a prominent dome rivet to securely seal the ring. These riveted rings may alternate with solid rings or every ring may be riveted individually (both types are historical). This mail is ideal for reenactors, light / medium sport combat and for those who want an elevated level of historical authenticity to their ensemble or kit.
Wedge Riveted Chainmail: The perfect chainmail to pair with plate armor, wedge-riveted mail has a much lower rivet profile than dome riveted mail and will be a more seamless layer of protection sandwiched between your padded armor and plate exterior. As a plus, this mail is notably easier to don and doff because it does not have a prominent dome rivet for rings to snag on. Pairing perfectly with later Medieval plate armor, this mail consists of links which have a low-profile rivet and they may or may not alternate with a solid ring (both types are historical). This mail is great for those who want an easier mail to don, or for those who want a period-correct mail to pair with their Milanese or Gothic armored harnesses.
