     whenever new arrivals grace the halls of kt, nayeon can’t help the way her energy seems to skyrocket, the excitement and anticipation of meeting new trainees a growing fire. in general, she’s always loved meeting new people, sharing experiences, and developing friendships that could potentially last a lifetime. so, it’s always her goal to not only make sure new kids feel as welcomed as they can when entering this new ( and oftentimes, stressful ) chapter in their lives, but also make sure they know that know they have a friend they can turn to who’s experiencing the same things.

     feeling alone is the worst, and nayeon never wants those around her to feel like that if she can help it.

     so, once break time comes around and everyone's free to do as they please, nayeon wastes no time rushing to her bag, pulling out what she’d prepared the night before, and making her way to the newest addition to the female trainees roster— naeun. they hadn’t had a chance to really talk aside from the normal group introduction, but nayeon can feel the sweetness bleeding from the younger. “ah, naeun, do you have a second?” she calls gently, a beaming smile on her lips, and slowly she presents her gift. “i wanted to give you some welcome treats, i hope you like cookies! how are you feeling so far?”

cup held securely between two hands, this was chaewon’s fourth coffee of the day, and it was only two o’clock. she was fully booked at the salon today, and was covering for another girl, so she’d been running on her feet all day. she had always been a coffee lover, but it never tasted so good as it did at times like this. she hardly spoke to naeun besides the regular hellos and how are yous until she had half the cup downed and finally regained some energy back. 

“so,” she put down her mug a little too hard and raised an eyebrow at naeun. chaewon quickly glanced at the time -- wow, she’d managed to  get the café and drink so much of her drink in under fifteen minutes. it was a new personal record. “i have ... forty five minutes left of my lunch break, naeun. let’s discuss. how is kt entertainment’s newest auditionee?” 

there was a hint of teasing to her voice, but chaewon meant her question completely sincerely. she wanted to know how her friend was, and how her audition went. the last time she saw her, last week or something, she’d barely been keeping track of the days, they’d been busking on the streets of seoul together. “i’m ... okay with how mine went. regardless of what happens, you know? i have to be okay with it.”

yeosang was no stranger to using instagram. although, most of the time, he never thought about it much and just snapped a picture regardless of the background or pose he was making. now, though, he might have to re-establish his usual photo-taking routines. actually, this workshop was making him overthink taking photos just a little bit.

even now, as the class was still in session, yeosang was scrolling through his instagram thinking about what edits he should make to his old pictures, or whether he should just take them all down and start anew with the new tips that he had been given.

“excuse me?” he called out to the person who sat close to him. “may i ask for your opinion on something?” yeosang asked, holding out his phone. “it won’t take too much of your time, i just wanted to ask you which theme would be better.”

three pillars of rap class, dated may 31st, 2020.

    ten minutes before the class starts, hangyul is already waiting outside the room. he passes the time by reading a particularly interesting scholarly article he had downloaded to his phone a few days ago (not for school, but for his own entertainment). when seven minutes pass and they're finally allowed in, he makes a mental note of where he was in the article and exits out. hangyul glances around the room and sighs in relief when he spots a familiar face. he heads straight for her side, ignoring a glare that comes from a suspicious-looking boy who was trying to snag the exact same spot as hangyul.

    "oh, you're here." it doesn't come out as a question because of course naeun would be here. hangyul's remembers his cousin telling him about her interest in rap and idols. he's one of the lucky-enough members of their family to know, maybe because she trusts him or maybe because they share that interest—rap, that is. (hangyul couldn't care less about the idol industry, though he's been doing his research on k.arma after learning about their cute member who had led that horrifying class two days ago).

    but even when it comes to rap, hangyul knows that naeun is more dedicated to the art than he is. for him, it's a hobby. it's for fun, when it's late at night and he lays in bed with his headphones in and raps along to the song, performing for the ceiling above him. in contrast, it seems like naeun actually wants a career out of this, but hangyul can't help but wonder... 

    "hey, if you're in this class, does that mean you don't already know the pillars of rap?" he raises both eyebrows in an attempt to tease his cousin, but the face he makes looks more judgemental, if anything. he hopes his tone conveys his true intentions. "i thought you were already better than me at rap but... perhaps not?"

♥«´¨`•°.. » march 29th; happy birthday joohyun ! »                                                ¸.•* birthday mini fan-meeting  `*•.

she almost feels like she doesn’t deserve this.

it’s just like the awards ceremonies all over again, the feeling like she hasn’t been around long enough to deserve anything, the award itself, the fans, this fanmeeting, and she nearly lets these thoughts consume her, but she catches herself just in time, forces herself to stop, take a deep breath, relax.

it’s her birthday, god damn it, and nothing is going to ruin it, least of all herself.

things start off with a greeting for the fans, a small speech, and, unbeknownst to her, a video from her closest friends and family, a video that brings tears to her eyes, brimming but never quite falling over, having taken every inch of strength she has to keep it in. it then goes into a q&a session where she answers random questions from fans, filled out before the actual fanmeet. of course, there are the usual, the expected questions, but there are also a couple that throw her for a loop, causing her to pause, to laugh, to reflect in ways she never expected.

the next part also makes her nearly cry, a foam board of post-it notes filled out by fans with well wishes and congratulations for her birthday, and it helps her realize that she needs to stop doubting herself so much, that there are people supporting her who would be disappointed to learn of the way she doubts herself. from those, she chooses three random people who will be able to take photos with her afterward, and just before the end, she blows out the candles prepared for her by a union of her fansites.

she decides it’s okay to cry here, everything compounded all into one, tears of gratefulness.

afterward, she gets to meet the few fans selected for photos, each one unique, each face etched into her mind forever. different poses, different comments, all the same feeling of warmth, like lee naeun with her heart pose request, or kim jinwoo and his request for a hug and the tears streaming down his face.

she had no idea how much she needed this when she’d requested it, and she’s glad she was able to do it, a memory she would never forget.

happy birthday indeed.

fall from grace

he was really minding his own business. 

just hanging out at the patio of his local convenience store to kill some time. if anything, he was really staring out into space. procrastinating on his communications notes he should be reviewing for the exam in a couple of days. he was going to get to it but as always, his excuse of ‘ i need some air ‘ always held a higher precedence over anything. he was tired  --  ‘ i need some air ’  --  he needed time away  --  ‘ i need some air ’ ; it was the best excuse he could pull to get him out of anything, even his own mind, it seemed.

he wafts through the daze, staring out into the street as he snacks on the chips he had bought earlier ; dusting his hands off to rid it of the leftover crumbs. he watches from the side as the upstairs tenant drops water off the side  --  they were probably watering their plants on their balcony again. he shrugs, moving his gaze from the stream of water to crowd of people that passed, watching as each of them skillfully avoided the sprinkle of water. 

all except one.

“hey miss!” he says, raising his voice at the slightest to warn her  --  eyebrows furrowing as it becomes apparent that she had not heard him.

he groans, “yah! you’re going to get --” jaemin can feel his agitation rise at the obliviousnes of the girl before he finally standing, feeling his reflexes burn at how fast his arms and legs moved to reach her in time; pulling her back, effectively crashing her into him as he turns them just as the water hits his back and he’s drowned in cold water. “wet.”

it’s a second, eyes going from the sky where the tenant had finally realized their plant water had run off to the person he had apparently saved  --  lightbulb finally going off. 

“damn  --  “ he scoffs, finally recognizing the face he’s seen more than he likes to admit. this was becoming a burdensome string of coincidences ; raising his eyes to meet hers ; knees straightening to pull himself back to his full height as he drops his hands from her. “we really got to stop meeting like this it’s starting to feel like some dumb drama.”

how to be a pretty girl

mina could say she was an expert in fashion. having worked at a clothes retail store for a few months, she has reason to believe that she’s good at putting outfits together. so much so that if someone were to ask her for fashion advice, she’d be able to take a look at them and give critiques and suggestions. it’s surprising, considering no one else in the family has an eye for fashion like she does. but, that in mind, she strengthens the mindset of fighting for herself in the world. no one will ever catch her slipping. they may think she’s a bitch, but at least she’s a well-dressed one. 

besides h&m (for her employee’s discount), she also spends a good amount of her time thrifting for cute outfits as well. it’s why this flea market was right up her alley. adorable clothes at an affordable price? it’s a reality that is becoming more common and mina was more than delighted with that. what else could she do besides spread her happiness over cute fashion at a good price? that’s right! share her happiness with others. 

that’s why naeun was her model for today. while she did want to get some stuff for herself, she put herself on a mission to be able to get outfits for the other girl. in return, both of them could walk around the ewha campus together if they weren’t already tired from shopping. as they were walking by each tent with their stalls, mina stops in her tracks all of a sudden as she spots an adorable pink dress with a floral print on it. after she lets out a dramatic gasp, she looks over at naeun with a big smile before pointing at it. “you have to get that. now.”
