this eval was just a little bit of a pain in the ass, especially when he had come to realize that he didn’t actually know any other trainees born under the same star sign as him. and while he didn’t really mind doing the whole thing solo, it was still a little annoying and he would have preferred finding a group to slip into. but he simply supposed that he didn’t have much of a choice in the matter and he was just going to have to make do by himself. but at least he didn’t have to worry about the planning by himself as well and could still get some other opinions. 

“did you know that taurus and pisces have great compatibility?” he offered with a grin as he glanced up over the table where seunghun was currently sitting. “it’s probably why we get on so well.” not that he had ever bought into any of the zodiac crap to begin with, but this evaluation did require just a bit of research to find a suitable enough song. though he certainly wasn’t against just taking to youtube and finding something that way. it was probably easier than coming up with his own idea.

hi!! so, to procrastinate doing anything else worthwhile, and to try and help others find trainees to do their evaluations with this month, i made a list of trainees’ birthdays and zodiac signs! this doesn’t include any idols or anyone confirmed to debut and preparing for it (selected heartz girls, nsg, etc.) it does include the heartz girls that are still trainees though, even though they can’t participate in the eval. hopefully this helps, or that it’s something interesting even if it doesn’t! it’s a long list, so i’ll put it under the cut.

the amount of mapping out ideas he’s done for this eval is beyond most that he’s done in the past, even those he’s written his own raps to. he just doesn’t get it. a theme he struggles with out of the sheer fact that he can’t decide on a single trait, on one he thinks represents the sign, or him or anything other than a whim, really. if he wants to pick a certain song and mold it to fit one of the supposed traits— which can vary, sometimes drastically, depending on the source he looks at and who the hell knows what is or isn’t a reliable source anyway— couldn’t he essentially do anything? 

it feels like a convoluted test and ‘studying’ makes him feel restless to the point that he’s this close to clicking shuffle in his music app and letting siri take the wheel. the apple algorithm, whatever. he looks at the list his sister’s sent over, all the while pointedly ignoring the family group chat messages making fun of him because he didn’t google his zodiac sign to make sure before asking or looking into it. a few words stand out to him but he still can’t decide if they apply to him or how he wants to apply those to a song. 

the day of the evaluation, part of him questions if what he chose is good enough, if it emphasizes how being a perfectionist can lead to a melancholy feeling, that how passionate his sign can be also comes across as intense. most of all, he hopes it emphasizes the hidden [or maybe that’s just him] sensitiveness of virgos. 

because the song itself reminds him of his long journey to get to this point, to waiting for his turn, guitar in hand and new acoustic arrangement ready to go. virgos can be single-minded but it means they’re also determined. now that might be a trait he can get behind no problem. because it has its negatives and positives, because he wouldn’t be back in a company without being that way. whether his zodiac sign influenced that, he has not a single damn clue, but it can’t hurt, now can it? 

if his zodiac sign is all about running for success, being strong-minded and willed to achieve it, he wants to embrace it the way he does the guitar as he strums and plucks. he’s decisive in his motions, his gestures with the idea of it highlighting the determination of his sign and, by the time he gets to the final line— the world feels different to me— he understands that as his will power, of the single-minded actions and thoughts he might pursue. to change his world, it starts with his perspective and that is definitely how he’s gotten through life. 

guess the theme wasn’t so bad after all.

Knowing yourself and having a more objective understanding of your talents, potentials, fears and tendencies when dealing with certain events is important not only to grow but to be able to translate and comprehend your emotions, which is also the key for expressing yourself better, something artists do a lot through their songs, performances and writing. Whether their music or art in general is personal or talks about a random theme, idols should have the ability to embody the concept and find a way to connect and relate to it. 

This month, trainees are gathered by their coaches in small practice rooms and told to look into themselves and their personalities for their monthly evaluation, because the song they will be performing at the end of the month should represent or connect to their zodiac sign in a way. Every sign is associated with positive and negative traits that one might embody or not. On the other hand, some people might not fit some of the stereotypes for their sign. However they feel about it, the idea is picking one of the characteristics and finding a track with the same message or vibe (reference). 

On September 30th, trainees will reveal their zodiac sign and perform the chosen song in front of a small panel of coaches in one of Seocho’s practice rooms. For this month’s performances, they are told to either sing or rap live as usual while dancing is optional. Group performances are allowed, but there’s one rule: only people who share the same zodiac sign can form a group, so if you choose to not perform solo, the team has to be formed only by libras, capricorns and so on, depending on your muse’s sign. If you’d like, Chinese zodiac is also allowed and has to follow the same rules. 

In order to collect +2 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH and +2 DEBUT POINTS, write one 250+ words solo or a four-post thread with another trainee involving the preparations for this month’s evaluation. For +3 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH, +2 DEBUT POINTS and +1WK OF RELEVANT ACHIEVEMENT, write one 300+ words solo about your muse’s performance for this month’s evaluation. sagittarians assemble!!

hi so as the title suggests, this is an eval call! daniel here is a sagittarius! my plan is to collect as many sags in a group as i can, and then we can decide a fitting song together. hopefully that’ll work well ASDFSDGSD please consider joining us 😊

whether you join or not, i know Some Things about astrology and want to share my knowledge about the sagittarius sign in case you need some help deciding on songs, and to give anyone that may join this group some guidance to start Thinking.

sagittarius is a fire sign. they’re incredibly optimistic, free-spirited and fun, kinda wild, and they hate to be tied down by anything. they’re noncommittal and love their freedom; they’ll get really upset if it’s threatened. they don’t like being bossed around and they’re unabashedly themselves basically all the time. they are Loud, not necessarily literally, but in presence and energy. they’re adventurous and honest, too.

what i’ve got as far as songs go is the vague idea of something fun, energetic and daring. my first thought is maybe, perhaps, pirate king or treasure by per_se? like a true sagittarius (even though i am not one), i am not committing to anything as far as song choices go until i gather more of you ❤️ my plan is to toss everybody into a twitter group dm to discuss all of this, so just say the word if you’re down!!

september 2020 evaluation

       zodiac performances || fiction - sumika 

Upon the arrival of evaluation day officially, sungyeol was slightly nervous. He wasn’t still entirely sure of his song choice but he hoped it would be okay and good enough to show off. Knowing that most of the other trainees chose to work in groups, sungyeol second guessed his decision to work solo and go by himself on an eval like this but he was sure that he wasn't the only one. 

Sometimes it was just easier to work solo on a such a personal evaluation. It was finally his turn though. Well too late to try and back out of this now.

"Im a  Virgo, no surprise there, right?" He states revealing his sign. He was motioned to start his song. Sungyeol took a deep breath and now there was officially no chance to back out. He was doing Fiction by Sumika the opening for Wotakoi. Nope, no chance.

He began singing, his voice cheerful and soft compared to his earlier nerves. He had fun learning the song and since Japanese was one of the languages that he was fluent in, sungyeol showed no hesitation on his words.

He was actually kind of glad that he'd chosen this song since it was already popular and even with the little hand dance that they did in the opening, he stayed super cute and very sure of himself as he did the hand dance. He giggled for a moment losing his notes but he found himself and kept singing as though he didn't mess up.

The song was meant to be fun and easy since the anime had that same vibe and he was a hardworker to show off the perfect performance. Of course it was no longer perfect but he truly did try to continue on as though nothing happened. It was harder to keep going knowing that he messed up earlier. Upon finishing the song, he took a bow and rushed out mentally kicking himself for messing up.

preparations: september 2020 evaluation        zodiac searches. 

sungyeol was not sure on the song that he could do. there wasn’t a lot of songs that embodied his zodiac sign. but as they got more details, sungyeol began thinking of what he could actually take on. he wasn’t sure which direction to go into, maybe he could go into the anime direction and sing an anime opening of some sort. 

he pondered on the anime op that he could do. maybe he could do a song from wotakoi: love is hard for otaku since that was a personal favorite anime for him and also he felt that the opening by Sumika represented the hardworking side of his zodiac.

Besides Japanese was right up his alley and he could pull off the simple fun vocals with some practice. He spent the remainder of his month looking for the lyrics and learning them since deciding on a song took the better part of two weeks after the evaluation was announced.

He figured he wasn’t going to be that bad of a singer since hes had some time to practice in his time at nova and hopefully the song he picked would fit the theme. Sungyeol learned that bit of the hand dance, thinking that it would be a fun thing to add to his performance at the end of the month.

That hand thing also took him about a week to learn and essentially perfect since it just looked easy but it was tough.

However, sungyeol wasn’t a quitter. That never was his way.

→ september 2020 evaluations ! — kangaroo by wanna one -- triple position…!

he’s feeling a little underprepared, and it’s not for lack of practice.

if anything, he’s spent even more time practicing for this evaluation than usual, and not because he lacks confidence (even though he does) but because he still feels at a loss. things like star signs and astrology have always been lost on him, and to have to base an entire performance on that has him struggling to hold onto something that will steady him.

but even if he can’t quite grasp the overall theme and concept of the performance, he at least has the song itself to focus on, it’s cute and upbeat vibe giving him just enough to, as they say, fake it til he makes it. the lyrics are playful and carefree like he is, and it’s easy to fall into that rhythm and persona once the music begins and the performance starts.

throughout the entire song, he has to do just as much singing as he does rapping, and while he’s put in more time practicing his singing this time in an effort to make up for his lack of talent in that department, he still struggles to find the right note at times, and though his bright and cheerful expression doesn’t show the disappointment and panic he feels, anyone with a trained ear like the coaches would be able to hear it and pick up on it right away. hopefully they take into consideration that he is not a singer.

it doesn’t help that the choreography is so high energy, but he tries his best anyway. at least the movements aren’t too sharp, and there isn’t too much emphasis on synchronicity, allowing him to put more of his individuality on it and focus on other things rather than getting it just perfect.

once the performance is over, he still feels dissatisfied, but he can at least say he’d given it his best try, and really, what more could he ask for?
