the younger girl had been familiar from the first moment taeeun laid eyes on her. her brother wasn’t the first person to come to mind when thinking of how she knew someone else but it was slowly sinking in that her brother not only had a presence in seoul but he found a home there. after thinking of the city they grow up in together as their only home, it was almost unsettling to realize. still, it didn’t necessarily bother her. it was a change as was the change in her permanent address, a change she still hadn’t made adamant to her parents aspermanent. her mom thought it best to consider it a phase despite knowing how stubborn her daughter can be and taeeun didn’t bother to correct her for the time being. the person who truly needed the most convincing was herself and clinging to every part of home didn’t help her nor did she think to stop.
fingers curled into crimson tendrils as she regarded who she assumed to be the youngest amongst the group of friends gathered tonight. what was her name again— oh.
avoiding a scuff to the back of her helled boots with how abruptly she stood from her seat, a skill practiced from trekking everywhere in new york much to the chagrin of her ex-boyfriend, taeeun plopped down next to seungmi, smiling warmly as she started in english. “ you know troy, right? does he speak to you in english like this when he goes to kt? ”
eyes opened wide and smile stuck on her lips, seungmi laughed at one joke after another, constantly nodding to sarcastic remarks and launching some of her own. it’s been a while since she could gather with her friends, just talking and socialising. amongst everyone present at the moment, she could name more than three quarters. after all, she had always been one to bond over the simplest and most ironic things– school competitions and protecting her friends from beating the crap out of other high school students. if relationships were to be described by a certain inanimate object, hers would be a fishing net. wide, spread-out, and hard to get out of (meaning she keeps in touch with almost everyone she knows).
“seol, can you get me some water? i’m thirsty.” the request was topped off with a small nudge, the taller female quickly getting up without trying to turn down her favor. crossing her legs, she yawned briefly, wondering how long she can stay without dozing off.
a girl with scarlet locks took seolin’s place, greeting her with a smile as she sat down. returning the smile, she waved, hands besides her cheeks and moving from side to side for a mere second. “hi tae...eun?” the girl’s name momentarily scurried past the center of her brain, but disappeared shortly after leaving her in blanks of the girl’s name. raising an eyebrow with an uncertain smile, she giggled, ‘that is your name, right?”
before she could continue, the older girl started to talk. sad to say, it wasn’t in korean and she couldn’t comprehend ninety percent of what had just been said.
“uh,” she blinked in surprise, “are you talking in english?”
