• • •   the sound of a throat being cleared is the first thing heard as the camera comes into focus on a smartly dressed adachi yuto. he is stood against a white wall and looking every but as awkward as he’s probably feeling. his brows raise as someone off camera gives him a signal before his eyes focus back onto the camera. “….my name is adachi yuto. i am rapper from nagano, japan.” is all he says and there’s a long pause as he stares at whoever is behind the camera again, obvious confusion wrapping his expression. “oh…” he starts once more, but merely bows instead of saying anything else.

• • •   the camera goes out of focus for a moment but when it does come back this time the subject is looking a little more relaxed. and this time when he speaks its in japanese, which he also sounds so much more at ease using. understandably. “my goals are to reach a hand around the world. to be on stages in places i would never have thought i would perform in.” he smiles a little shyly, a hand raising to his hair and he brushes the dark curly locks out of his eyes only for them to fall right back into place. “world wide handsome, maybe?” shy laughter. “rapper know around the world for sure though."

I’m from Daegu, but I moved to Seoul recently with my sister.” Despite a rickety breath, he managed to straighten his back while sitting in the center of his bed, fingers fiddling with a pillow placed onto his lap. “When I was younger- like .. eleven?- my cousin and I started learning idol choreographs to help pass time. What’s up!” She greeted the camera, waving at it as she smiled that oh so charming smile of her’s. “My name is Lee Hyemin.” She gave the camera a wink, crossing one long leg over the other. “I am twenty-five years old and I am a rapper, model, and bartender, It’s a lot, I know.” She giggled, rather not mentioning Instagram as she understands it’s not considered a job. “Gotta make that money baby.” Yes, she really did call the camera baby, she doesn’t care.

• • • “I’ve always enjoyed performing in front of people and entertaining them.” She let out a laugh realizing how typical her answer sounded. “I want to reach out to people with my music and dance and show them that they can do anything they put their minds to.” She pointed to the side of her head. “I didn’t start rapping just to look ‘cool’, I want my voice out there, to reach people, hell if I inspire one person that would be amazing. Music is important, it speaks to the soul; more than anything else.”

• • • Yoojung frowned slightly at the camera, for a split moment, a lithe sigh escaping from her very lips as she tilted her head, brushing down her skirt to face the intimidating camera with a nervous heart. Her teeth worried her bottom lip ever so slightly, lashes fluttering as she sucked in a deep breath, eyes darting for a moment to the milling staff members beyond the camera, before her back straightens proudly and her eyes close, fluttering open only seconds later, all trace of nerves seeped away and locked within her slender body. “My name is Kim Yoojung.” Her voice is lilting but sweet, confident but yet with a tinge of fresh alluringness. “I’m 18, born in Seoul, and just started my University studies in Literature as a part time student. I’m currently modelling and working as a helper at a florist shop to support myself and my studies as well, and my hobbies tend to lie on the more creative sphere, like drawing and painting. I also like to sing, but I don’t really do so unless requested.” Her head dipped lightly as her lashes flickered. Her hands fluttered lightly, betraying the slight tremors of nervousness in her body, though seemingly extremely relaxed and natural right before the flashing cameras. There was no way Yoojung was camera shy, having had more than enough experience being right in front of it as a young model. Perhaps, she was simply nervous, but that was normal, considering Yoojung’s rather quiet, shy and peaceful personality behind the cameras. She didn’t really like situations that threw her for a loop, or were new to her, requiring more than just some time to properly adjust to it everytime she stepped into new, unknown territory, but still stepped up to the task when it was required of her, especially if she understood how important it was to her next step in life.

• • • The question suddenly posited threw Yoojung entirely for a loop, a momentary lapse in her perfect façade of a prim and proper lady before the cameras dropping abruptly as she gaped for a moment, open mouthed, her eyes darting from side to side as she reorganised her thoughts quickly to answer the question. “I..just want a normal life for the moment.” She admits, her fingers twining together as she answered the interviewers calmly, her eyes flickering like the brightest stars in the dark night sky. “Maybe finish my degree before moving on to something else? I want to live a life that I enjoy. That I can be free to do what I want and yet not feel restricted. To enjoy what I work and work what I enjoy.” A soft smile spread across her lips as she shrugs. “What can I say? I’m a simple person. And simple people are usually easily satisfied. But that is definitely not to say that my aspirations might change as I go through more of life’s experiences. So I wouldn’t confine myself into the four cornered box of following the aspiration that I currently have. I’ll enjoy what I can do, and look for greater things that I love. That’s what I’m all about.” A slightly crooked smile fluttered across her lips for a tentative moment. “It’s a childish pipedream, but one that I’m more than willing to see through until there’s literally no way out.” She hears the whispers of disbelief and scathing remarks from behind the cameras, the murmurs of her wasting their time, and Yoojung simply plasters a smile on her face as she walks past them. She never asked to be interviewed anyway, and wasn’t going to care much for the outcome of if she was selected or not, at the very least, not right here, right now.

I’ve also started to rap recently and plan to increase my skills,” her words are more formal than they might need to be and she looks confident. “I promise to always give my best, no mater what.” She finally smiles into the camera again and her eyes show the determination she feels. Her words were short, but cut right to the point and after bowing again, Eunbin turns the camera off.
