the performance comes to an end and yugyeom finishes up talking with a few of his regular fans who had of course shown up to this. he’d been setting the speaker they used inside the cart when he turned to the younger with a grin. “lets get dinner, yeah?” and thankfully managed to get hangyul to agree. the younger male was kind of funny, but yugyeom has been around enough different types of people to know how to handle him.

and thats how they ended up at a meat place near by. thanks to the nights tips, as well as having busked all weekend, yugyeom was more than able to afford to take them both out to get some meat. and the all you can eat place just a little ways down the fashion street was always a nice treat. he doesn’t come enough to be known by the staff, but enough he supposes. 

“do you want anything to drink other than water? cola, cider? beer?” he would get a cider himself, going on almost a year without drinking and he planned to keep it strong. “anything is fine, dont worry about it-- hyungs treat!”

a day in the life ; kim yugyeom 

an average morning for yugyeom consists with him being awake to see dongmin off for training, some nights he’s arriving home from work around the time the older needs to leave or he just wakes up for a morning shift. regardless, it’s rare he doesn’t see the older off even if some mornings it’s just him waving good bye. reminding dongmin to eat properly because i’m always watching. he tries to sound threatening but as he tends to be half asleep during these times, it never seems threatening. 

if he worked the night shift, then after seeing his roommate off, yugyeom will go and crash until well after noon. if he worked a morning shift then he would get ready once dongmin was gone, and then toddle around for another hour before heading off to work. 

most week nights he has off of work only so that he could busk. sometimes he would busk and then go into an overnight shift, or he would get off work at the chicken shop and go right to hongdae to get ready. regardless, his week nights would be filled with dancing.

months ago it would be typical to see him busk during the 8-10 hours, but these days he finds himself with the earlier times. not that he dislikes the earlier times, it just means less money. which is also why he has been reserving more spots to busk. needing the money he gets from tips there. his two jobs alone don’t cover everything he needs and he hates asking dongmin for money--never once needing the other to cover him for anything and he wants to keep it that way.

busking goes pretty similarly every night too. 

he shows up ten minutes late, gets set up and spends fifteen minutes just rambling to whatever small crowd he has formed. his regular fans all use to him and most even seem to be ignoring him. he knows they say they can’t understand him when he talks but he doesn’t get why. then he spends an hour and a half dancing on an off. he’s got pretty good stamina so it’s not really a problem for him to do song after song. 

he tends to do two songs of his choice then two songs of the audience choice. if he gets lucky, then someone he knows might be in the crowd and he’ll drag them in to dance one or two songs with him. 

then -- if he has an early time-- he stops about fifteen minutes before he needs to leave so he can talk with and take photos with his fans. if seungmin or jaehee had also come with him then normally they take care of packing up and he’s able to get photos with everyone. but most nights he ends up cutting the photo time off short. 

after busking he heads to the studio and practices until late into the night--or he heads to work. depends on the day. 

weekends he keeps his evenings free to spend with either his roommate, his best friend, or his best friends not boyfriend ( thought the two of them tend to hang out often anyway. neither of them having anything to do ever ). he likes to have dinner with dongmin at least once a week, not that they don’t see each other every day or anything, but still. 

due to his three jobs, and his need to stay social, yugyeoms schedule is always full and his sleeping times are erratic. but he doesn’t mind. he manages.

     it’s been a long time since the last time he had ventured into hongdae on his own accord. he’s been there recently enough for the one eval where they had fucking gone there to busk, like that wasn’t his old job or whatever, and it had made him almost nostalgic for the old days. of course, he doesn’t regret signing the contract and he doesn’t regret the mgas or becoming a trainee, but he does miss dancing on the streets and interacting and performing with his old fans. 

     knowing that he needed to keep a low-ish profile, he dons a mask and a bucket hat, pulling said hat low over his eyes to cover his face and his newly dyed brown hair – hyunggu heads to where his knows his best friend is busking tonight, having checked his instagram after training had ended. 

     he finds a spot in the crowd, behind yugyeom, knowing the other would end soon and then he could ambush him. a few of his old fans are there too, or well, fans of dynamite and they recognize him almost right away. he grins behind the mask and gestures for them to shush and that he’s trying to surprise yugyeom. though, he’s pretty sure he might have to interfere soon if his best friend picks up the microphone anytime soon.

he’s finishing up a song, one of the many girl group songs he learned simply from watching hyunggu and when he had asked the fans what to preform ( cute? sexy? fun? ) they had all cheered for cute. not surprising really as he is always doing sexy songs and his fans like seeing him to dances he dies while doing. 

aka, cute girly songs. 

the song ends, and the fans lose it and he finds himself unable to stop laughing even as he tries to talk into the mic. “okay, one more song--” he says between embarrassed cackles much to the amusement and exhaustion of the fans who have been trying to keep up with is mumbled korean all night. it doesn’t help that he holds the mic so oddly that it muffles him even more. his old fans are use to it but they wish they didn’t have to strain so much.

“for the long song, does anyone have any suggestions?” he begins, but instead of taking answer he starts in on a tangent on needing to find a partner because solo busking was exhausting but no one could really understand him.

rkwintersinger watching the performances 

the announcement for the contest had been shown to yugyeom so soon after it had gone up, and for a brief moment he had considered taking part. after all, he’s taken part in all kinds of contests in the past--even winning one recently--but this one just didn’t catch his eye like some of the other ones. maybe it’s because it was a singing contest. 

honestly, yugyeom isn’t a singer. he’s a dancer first, and then probably a rapper. he can sing, after all he done vocal covers and stuff before but he wouldn’t rate himself as a good vocalist. and certainly not one who would jump onto this stage and sing for a contest. 

there’s the fact too that during the month he just couldn’t think of something to perform even when he considered it. 

so the day of the contest he found himself there but for once merely in the audience. it was kind of odd just being an audience member. seeing the performances go up one after another and knowing he wasn’t going to be one of them. as normally when he finds himself at one of these things he is always taking part. 

but it was also kind of nice in a way. there was no expectation to be ready, or any nervousness over forgetting a line or a cue or messing up for eveyone to see. he didn’t have that pre performance stomach ache that he normally got. just a relaxing day watching some people sing.

and there are a whole lot of talented people in seoul apparently.

After announcing the winners from their dance competition earlier in the month, the three dancers made their appearance as the opening act for the second part of MBC’s GAYO DAEJEJUN. hello my 20′s  an ode to 2019 ; a greeting to 2020

2019 was a lot of things for yugyeom. he lost friends, he gained friends, he missed chances and he took shots. as 2019 ended, as he knocked back his third coffee of the night just to stay up, cheering with the others as the clock ticked and ticked until the time rang midnight and everyone stepped into the new decade, he thought i made it. 

the ups were good, and kept him going through out the downs. those low moments that he thought he might give up and that this would be the end. he would become just another story for the books and eventually a faded, forgotten name scratched into someones address book that lays forgotten and dusty in a drawer. he saw himself distancing from those who he considers important and who he believes consider him the same, until they didn’t worry what was wrong with him.

he thought if they don’t care, then this will be easy. if no one cares. 

if no on cares, the can left go.

2019 hit him like a train hitting an uncut mountain and for a while yugyeom wanted to let the waves wash him up and take him away. 

to give up. 

to let go. 

he half wonders if the fact his friends held onto him so tightly was a positive thing for him in the future. if the fact that no matter how much he tried to pull away, their grip heldfast and he wasn’t able to get very far. sure not everyone stayed. some let him slip from their grasp and he has no intention to try and fix that, but the ones who held on. the ones who didn’t give up on him... 

maybe he owes them a thank you? a dinner? maybe he owes them his life. 

2019 was hard, and yugyeom can’t say yet for sure if the year shaped him for the better or not but as he looks around at friends, and people he knows, as he hugs dongmin, and texts hyunggu and yien. as he calls yohan and talks to the newly founded brother to make plans in the new years, he thinks. yeah 2019 was a lot.

but if he looks into 2020 with the idea of just being happy then maybe, just maybe. thats what will happen. 

no setting this intense goals and resolutions for the new years, no bars set to high that even if he jumps from a trampoline he couldn’t hope to reach it. he’s going to aim for something reasonable, and useful, and something he should have been working for already. 

for 2020, he’s going to be happy and reach out to friends more. he’s going to take more walks to places he hasn’t been. pet more cats, drink more water, and do more of the things he loves. a decade is over, and a new one is starting and no one can tell him how the new year is going to go except for him. 

 so raise a glass for the year that passed and look forward to the future. for the future belongs to those who dream, and smiles that positively beam.

the gayo daejejun performance day 

he’s nervous. 

it’s normal to be nervous before a big performance like this and for yugyeom, this is the biggest performance he has ever been apart of. nothing he has done in the past would be able to compete against what he is about to do today. thinks that it could also be the biggest thing he’ll ever do--but he likes to think this isn’t the end to his story. that his dream isn’t fullfilled here and he still has stones to step up.

regardless, this was pretty fucking cool and he’s so siked to be here. everything about it is only things he has seen on those behind the scenes videos that idol groups post to their youtube pages. 

and now he’s taking part in it. 

he was already all dolled up, waiting for the rest of the group to get finished with their makeup and hair and whatever else needed to be done before they got called up. the dancer taking the time to stretch out and warm up a bit. 

he can hear the noise of the people already here to watch the show. he’s already seen some passing idols though hadn’t been given the chance to talk to any of them. he half wonders if convex was here--if his hyung was here. he couldn’t see why he wouldn’t be, why they wouldn’t be. though he doubts he would be able to actually speak with the older.

he could wish though.

everything about it is still a little sureal, but yugeyom thinks his time busking and maintaining his leader role with his group helps him to keep his cool here. to keep collected and ready to go. that, even though this feels so very sureal, and amazing, he wouldn’t mess up just because he;s star struck. 

he’s here to make his mark. 

as they’re given their cue, yugyeom moves onto stage to get into position and he feels his heart racing. feels his blood pumping under his skin and he knows he’s ready to go. ready to perform.

Gayo Daejejun preparation 

it’s so fucking sureal to yugyeom when the dance contest results came out. when his name was listed at the top three. it’s so sureal because when he entered he didn’t really have any expectations, he did it because he was already uploading something for the week and what better than to kill two birds with one stone? it’s not like he had gone out of his way or anything, but he hadn’t really expected anything for doing this other than comments from his fans. 

to find out he not only won, but he was one of the top three dancers in the competition was so fucking mind blowing and even now, as he stands in front of the mirror at the studio provided for them to practice for the fucking Gayo Daejejun festival at the end of the year, he doesn’t think it’s real. 

yet, it has to be. 

it’s exciting, and nerve wracking, and such a good opportunity for him that of course he had jumped into it head first. he’d spammed hyunggu’s phone after the announcement, and kept sending the younger updates during practices because he couldn’t keep this excitement to himself. he wonders if this is a step closer to his dream. 

as he practices his own choreo for his center part, yugyeom can’t help but picture how it will be the night of the festival when he’s actually up on that stage performing where so many amazing idols have performed and before so many people. 

a lesser man would be shaking in his knees with fear. 

yugyeom is basking in it. 

he’s so fucking siked for this that he finds himself kicking his own ass during practice. wanting to fully utilize the days they have before the festival performance so he would be on that stage showing everyone his skill--his passion. he wants to leave his mark for everyone to see and notice so even when he leaves that stage his presence stays there in a way.

he’s gotten on a role with filming and uploading these weekly videos. 

his fans seemed to like it too as he keeps getting more positive comments than negative, plus during busking he’d been told they look forward to seeing what he’s going to upload. 

his main focus with these has been too show off dances he hasn’t yet done during busking--or doing choreos that aren’t really his style. as he knows what his own style is, he know the songs he leans towards when it comes to picking what to perform, and what his fans expect of him. so he likes to showcase the other sides of his talents with these videos. 

this weeks video was from an artist who’s solo album he kept forgetting to check out despite being recommended to him. and after one listen through of the album, he came to really enjoy the songs. so once he had seen the dance for one of the songs, yugyeoms weekly video had been decided. he started almost instantly learning the choreography for this song to film and by the time the end of the week came, he was more than happy to see the outcome. 

this weeks video is filmed inside the studio he’s been using recently, he’s dressed comfortably in his practice clothing as he had just had a class before this and didn’t feel like dressing up. it’s easy to see he had already been hard at work what with the messy hair, and the fact he was only in a tee shirt now. 

despite that he dances with the same passion and energy he always does, moving as if he hadn’t already been at this for hours. his body not feeling the fatigue, in fact he felt more energized the moment the camera was turned on. as if his mind was saying now you perform. 

and thats exactly what he did.

"hey, hey- excuse me!" he tugs at yugyeom's sleeve, in a hurry to catch him before he disappears into the hongdae crowd. "i– woah, sorry, i didn't mean to be rude or anything but i loved your performance just now! i just… really wanted to tell you? i mean, is this creepy? i don't really know the etiquette when it comes to these things but–" he smiles. "i really loved it! i'm, donghyuk, by the way! not that you should remember, i just… thought. you know. being polite. nice to meet you!"

a night of busking was complete and yugyeom was packed up and ready to take his stuff back to his place so he could wash up and sleep--maybe--when someone stopped him. not odd, as people stop him for photos often enough and it normally takes such a while for him to get out of here unless he just says no to photos. before he could get a word out though the kid who stopped him was talking. his eyes widened a little, taking in the words with a nod before a grin broke out on his face. “you’re all right, dude--thanks so much.” he replies honestly, hand coming to land on the others shoulder, touched by his words. “it’s normal for people to talk with me or take photos after a performance! i like to give my fans something for coming to see me.” he replies, hoping the ease the others worries regarding stopping him. “what’s your name, kid?”

[ MBC Dance Contest ] + Park Junyoung (Jun) - goodbye 1:56- 3:23

the mbc dance contest was something yugyeom found out about thanks to seungmin hyung texting him about it. he had spent his break at work reading over the link, and the rules and thinking over what he would do. there’s no way he would mess this opportunity, after all it’s not as if he would be going out of his way for it. he already uploads videos once a week, whats using one for this context? 

and he’s sure seungmin hyung would try to flay him alive if he missed the chance. 

even if the odds are against him--even if the chances of him going anywhere with his dance skills, of stepping into that world that so many of his friends have found their way in--is impossible, well. 

who was yugyeom to give up? 

that night he went to the studio instead of going home, a text to dongmin to let him know he was going to be late and not to worry, and it’s there that yugyeom spent the night. dancing and practicing and working through different songs and different choreo’s until something just stuck.

he thought of the friends who had already moved forwards into their future, of yien hyung who’s debuted and doing amazing things, or meiqi who also recently debut’d, of dongmin who’s been signed for a while, of hyunggu who was signed and working towards that dream they both hold. so similar to each other, except it’s yugyeom who was still on his own. 

yugyeom who works random hours in a chicken shop and spends his nights on the streets performing on his own.

he needs to move forward. 

that window of time he has for him to step into the world with his friends, with the people he cares about, is growing slimmer and yugyeom knows he will lose it. he knows he can’t spend forever how he is, especially with enlistment in the future.

so he would take every chance he could find. 

and in true yugyeom fashion, he decided to go with a jun song. in the past he’s covered a number of jun songs both for youtube, and busking and other competitions--his mind brings up the mga when he performed want. yeah, jun covers is kind of yugyeoms thing and he figured it couldn’t hurt to do another one here. after all, he knows all the dances by heart and he enjoys them. an important part of dance, he thinks, is enjoying it. 

this time around he decided to go with one of his favorite songs from jun, his japanese release goodbye though with only a 90 second window to show off, it had been tough picking which part of the dance to go with. in the end, he figured it out. 

he dances to the song as if it were his own and not someone else’s that he was covering. his body moving so smoothly through each motion that it was clear he’s really practiced this one. and he has. for a while it was the one he would do at busking for his solo--though everyone at busking likes the more upbeat songs so he had switched it around. but this one has always been kind of special to him. 

he moves with the music, feeling the emotion behind the song--the lyrics, and letting that show through in his movements and his expression. 

he wants everyone to see his passion in dance, his drive to become someone known for his skill. he wants people to see him. to see. 

the song comes to an end, he hits the final poses and the gentle motions that come with the end pose, but even as the song ends, it’s not really over. no, yugyeoms times has not ended yet and he’s determined to make his dream a reality.

solo busking with kim yugyeom  december 7th - hongdae busking zone 3 8:45pm     --- video uploaded to youtube gyeomshows [ exo - obsession dance cover ] 

“honestly, i normally don’t post videos from busking.” the first video, titles dance cover starts with yugyeom standing in the middle of the busking zone, he’s talking into a mic looking directly at the camera which one could only assume was set in the middle. “but my normal studio isn’t open right now due to cleaning, so this weeks uploads are going to be via busking~.” he held his arms to the sides and there’s this awkward moment of silence, followed by giggling sounds behind the camera before the fans in the area started clapping and cheering. 

yugyeom sighed, one hand coming to his hip as his other raised the mic back to his lips. “all you guys do is tease me.” he said, and everyone responded with amused sounding no way~ to which earned another sigh from him. 

“anyway, first video this week--the one i’m recording right now--is going to be a dance cover by exo. their new song obsession. you all know it right?” there’s some cheering in the crowd of fans which makes him grin. “then lets get going! music cue!” he pointed to the camera. the video then cuts to him once again standing in the middle of the area, except he isn’t holding the mic now and the song was ending only to loop around so he wouldn’t have to rush to get into his place.

exo is a group that yugyeom has covered a good handful of times both on his own and with his group mates. in fact, his other account on youtube--dynamite official--has videos posted of his group covering a number of the songs. all mostly shot from their former dance studio.

his personal favorites are the sexy songs--and it shows as he tends to perform the sexy tracks when busking. and obsession fits right into it. 

it becomes apparent that he’s covering specifically barkhyun’s part in the dance based on the location he moves and the times he lip sings--though he tends to lip sing the entire time he gets a bit more expression when it’s barkhyun’s lines. regardless, he makes sure to throw in as much of his energy into this as he can, really trying to show off his skill and ability in dance. he’s obviously enjoying himself. smirking and grinning at the camera and fans who catch his eyes. working for their cameras as well. 

having been busking for a while now he knows what to do to keep their eyes and to draw the attention of those walking by. it’s like an art to him, to dance in this circle and capture the attention of so many. the crowd around him grows and his energy seems to grow with them. 

he keeps up with the song, doing a full cover in stead of merely covering a part or a half of the song like he normally tends to do with busking. since he wants to upload the cover later, he decided to just do the whole song here even though he only ever tends to perfom a minute and a half of the songs he chooses. it’ll be like a nice surprise.

and the applause he gets at the end has him grinning ear to ear. even as he catches his breath, wiping the sweat from his forehead, he can’t help the euphoric feeling at the response he gets. it’s what makes performing all worth the while--what drives him to keep working. 

“thank you thank you!” 

the video cuts after he bows to the fans, and then to the camera recording. he edited it so that it would fade out as he’s waving instead of being abrupt.
