Not a very serious recap of Dhurandhar: The Revenge (part 6)
Spoilers
I didn't mention this last time, but Omar looks so sad at Aslam's funeral. Either way, the next part starts with Hamza going to Dubai to meet Maddy and Sushant Bansal and on the way, sees the news of the Uri attack. Aaaand, I'm not very sure what the point of this meeting is. Like isn't it kinda reckless? Lemme come to the inconsistencies now. In the prev. film, Maddy's character was always calling out the govt. for letting all these attacks happen and rightfully so, but like, he never calls out the attacks that happened under the current govt. I know a lot of people r gonna be like, but we have retaliated under the current govt., and honestly, this is controversial, but I don't care. The people that died during those attacks r still dead, their families r still suffering, irrespective of retaliation.
Aaaand now, we get into really contentious territory, that is ofc, demonitization. Now, I think everyone is pretty unanimous on the fact that it was not necessarily the best move and did more harm than good. At the same time, it is also true that this movie has the whole "fictionalised based on true events" thing going for it, which is obviously very convenient. So, technically the argument that it's fiction is not wrong, although people leaving the theatre beleiving this to be true worries me, I mean how gullible can people get? U know what I don't like though? I've heard people defend this movie saying that actual spies have made so many sacrifices for us and we r disrespecting them by calling it propaganda; or that why do we even care if it is propaganda since it's glorifying our nation only, and surely, there's nothing wrong with that. Now, the problem I have with these takes is that, I agree, the 1st part was indeed an insight on how many sacrifices unknown men (and women) make for their nation. Even the 1st half of this part is in the same vein. It is only in the 2nd half that this, imo, starts turning into less about the bravery of our spies n more about how awesome our PM is; which is far more disrespectful. Like as soon as he's in power, terrorists r dying left, right n centre, everything is suddenly insanely easy for Hamza. Also, it doesn't seem to be glorifying our gr8 nation, it's glorifying 1 person, n we all know who that is.
Back when The Kashmir Files came out, my mother wanted to watch it cuz of the cast and the acclaim it was receiving. One of us found it on utube and put it on for her. In a couple minutes however, my mother realised that this wasn't the actual Kashmir Files, but some sort of cheaply made film parading under it's name. It had the terrorists throwing bombs while screaming that they will not be left alive under the Modi govt. and it was all very hilarious and caricature-ish. I was actually shocked at how much this part of the film sounded like that. I expected better frm Aditya Dhar, the dialogue is soo awkward n bad. And once again, It involves Iqbal receiving info n doing nothing, which is exactly what's wrong with his character in this part.
Edit: I can see a lot of people misinterpreting me, so I just wanna repeat myself. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE ACTUAL KASHMIR FILES. It was some random low-budget movie that was wrongfully using the name of The Kashmir Files (and I was wrongfully looking to watch a film for free, but can u blame me, in this economy?) Edit ends.
Either way, Khanani is screwed and calls Hamza for help. He goes over there, obviously, to knock him down the terrace, n probably cuz he's distressed, Khanani doesn't notice that Hamza is acting sus. Ya know, I really wish Hamza would go back to killing people without giving explanations like he did in the 1st part, cuz I get really worried when he starts announcing his plans.
Atif gets arrested. Omar is playing detective n we get a lovely picture of Khanna sahab on his... detective board, and I've been so starved for a glance at him, I promptly start drooling.
Next, we have a very strange scene, which is a cameo by Yami Gautam, which I don't get why it was needed. Don't get me wrong, I like Yami as an actor, but I genuinely don't get what purpose this serves other than to take u out of the film's world, cuz u r immediately like, "Oh, that's the director's wife." U know, atp, I really miss how immersive the 1st part was. Also, she gives the man a medicine, he immediately dies, and noone finds that sus?
Hamza starts using his diary again, which is rather stupid. So, a whole bunch of bad people start getting killed by unknown men and it's all very....unimpactful. We don't know many of these people, they're dying as if killing them is no trouble at all which is obviously not true, n THIS, I find disrespectful. Also, I really don't get why everyone keeps coming to Hamza for help. And why does noone other than Omar connect the dots. Isn't it a lil obvious, which is the problem with this whole, "go as a spy n get to the top thing", but we'll discuss that later.
Next, Zahhor Mistry is being killed, n I get that the call scene with Maddy is supposed to be very massy or whatever, but isn't it like, very reckless? Also, Maddy hasn't aged a second in 23 years.
Once again, Iqbal is lounging around doing nothing. Hamza decides to try n poison Dawood the next time they meet, but doesn't manage it. So, he throws the band-aid out, which if it's that poisonous, isn't it dangerous? But whatever, I suppose.
Hamza n Yalina's parting is quite sad, n when she tries to hold on for a second longer, I'm sobbing. Like I get it. What I don't get is why Omar is finding this sus cuz it's just a wife saying bye to her husband.
Iqbal goes to the madrasa, n like, this is so disgusting; u r literally raising them like pigs for slaughter. U r destroying their lives and obviously causing the death of so many others. It's horrendous.
I really don't get why Omar needs confirmation frm Yalina. He seems sure enough. Why does he need to threaten Zayan , if he's so sure Hamza is a spy? Poor Yalina, really. Atif gets killed on camera. Omar, the tattle-tale, tells Iqbal on Hamza. Iqbal angrily stomps back home. His dad is being his usual douchey self. Turns out, he betrayed his country too. I was soo worried Iqbal was actually gonna pull out his tongue for a minute there, n promptly covered my eyes. But he only drowns him. He then proceeds to shave his head, which is a nice artistic touch, but I'm wondering what his actual reasoning was.
Either way, finally this ch ends n I'm going to bed. Ta ><
Edit: If anyone reads the comment section of this post, I just wanna clarify a couple things. I am not the best at conversation so I just wanna put across that I do understand that all the people that were killed and were involved in any anti- India work were indeed killed under an Indian operation ( let’s add a most probably there for good measure). What I seem to have failed to put across sufficiently is that I can not associate such things to a singular political leader or party. That’s all I meant to say. Other than that, I put a lot of effort into not getting political anywhere on my blog, including this post and if u read this and think I am indeed getting political, I request u to read it again because I assure u I am not.
