In my very personal opinion, when u watch Dhurandhar, u can’t help but be charmed by Rehman, atleast in the 1st half. That is what the film needs, and so Akshaye delivers. When u watch Ikka, u see Shaurya as the loser that he is (although insanely attractive, gods this man). Basically, I didn’t think the performances were similar, tee hee.

Hi my darling. Unfortunately, no; I haven’t watched any k-dramas yet, the reason being they’re often associated with romance, and I tend to like very specific things in romance. I end up finding a lot of contemporary romance cheesy. That being said, I do have a couple in my watchlist. Do tell me if u have some recs, I’d love to check them out some time.

Disclaimer: This will have spoilers. These r my opinions alone and it's totally okay if u disagree. This will get very ramble-y and a lil all over the place.
Okay, so the movie started and the 1st thing I noticed was how very obviously "Netflix" the color-palette is. Also, I was, for some reason, very nervous, as if meri movie ho; and like there was so much heat rising in my face with the 1st look at my darling, and I spent pretty much the entire movie with a very active sympathetic nervous system (thanks to the bane of my existence, Akshaye Khanna); so much so that I was actually exhausted by the time it ended. Yes, I am aware that I need help. But he's just too good of an actor, look at the pure hawas dripping frm his gaze as he eyes Soma; and I'm sure he's a perfect gentleman irl, which is what makes it so impressive.
The actor who played Soma, kinda looks like Nora Fatehi, especially with the bangs. Also, I didn't get why Shauryaman pushed her body out in front of the vendor, like could he not see him. I dunno why but I was under the impression that Soma was wearing a jumpsuit???!!! I think u can tell I have a lot of opinions on jumpsuits, but let's keep that for another day.
Sunny Deol makes a very Tarun Saluja-esque entry (I'm sorry if the comparisons with Section 375 become repetitive, it's pretty much the only other courtroom thing I've seen) except it's on steroids. And the way some people be cheering for him is so weird; like girl, nobody is ever that happy to see a a lawyer.
Now here's the thing, u need to bleed A LOT, for the pool to get red like that, a nose bleed is not gonna cut it; that looked more like a shark attack. Also, I get that Arjun had to go, but he literally gave his seminar for like, 5 minutes and left? Not to mention, him in that white coat in the hospital, low-key made him look like a doctor.
Is it me, or was Salman Khan catching shade in the lil hypothetical scenario Arjun asks his audience to imagine during the seminar, cuz I thought Salman Khan had good relations with the Deols.
Now Sunny Deol's acting is kinda bad thru-out. When he's speaking, it's over the top, when he's emoting, there's literally no expression on his face (although, he was probably going thru a bad phase at this time); but his interactions with Sam are still sweet, and his best acting thru-out the film. Honestly, the kid that plays Sam is also cute so that helps.
In the universe of this movie, nobody understands how lawyers work, not even lawyers themselves. I was so tired of the constant "Aap yeh kaise kar sakte hain" thing. Like 1st, there is no way Arjun can have won every case of his career if he never lies. 2nd, it's his effing job, he's a defense lawyer, he will defend people. This was discussed in Section 375 too, but with way more nuance, and I honestly missed that dichotomy.
The next time we see Shaurya, he's channeling pure brat in a furry white robe (the return of the sus robe) and the Akshaye staple of socks and sandals. What I don't get is, why would they choose Arjun to represent them if he disbarred him, is there no better lawyer anywhere?
I just plain disagree with people that think Akshaye's performance is similar to his in Dhurandhar (even 1 of my fav reviewers said it😟). 1st, Shaurya and Rehman are very diff, it's almost impossible to play them the same way. 2nd, I genuinely think that Akshaye literally becomes the character (I know I may be biased) and that's my genuine opinion. Tillotama is awesome as always.
I felt so awkward when the doctor says that Sam has leukemia, and Arjun, in front of the doctor, goes, "Let's get a 2nd opinion." Like...in front of him???
Shaurya's daddy issues r showing, btw, all thru-out the movie; which is ironic cuz Akshaye triggers mine.
This movie also has too much effing music. Like they need to take it down about 500 notches cuz they be doing way too much.
I feel so bad for that 1 guy who was like "Soma likes sugar daddies." and Arjun lost it on him. Like usne character assassinate kab kiya? He just said she likes sugar daddies, which deep down, all of us do. Also, Shaurya like Akshaye, is always such a broody broody boy, pouting away into space. I have never seen any case being discussed so avidly on news channels ki iss point pe lawyers bhi discuss ho rahe hain, this only seems to happen in movies for exposition purposes. I do know that senior lawyers are like celebrities within their circles but, I have never seen them be discussed, especially with such a high profile case where everyone is way more interested in whatever celeb is involved.
Soma is in a coma btw; and I have christened her Soma in a coma (I know I'm going to hell). It's so strange that Rehman was the father figure of sorts to all of his gang, and here Shaurya is vying for his father's affection or approval, and Akshaye pulls off both entirely too well.
He's a total burger bacha in this movie btw, complete with a PS in his jail cell. Gauri Gaur is a bad name. Soma's mother seems way too young to be her mother.
Imo, a very brilliant scene is when Shaurya cries in court. U look at it and think the acting is a lil off, and then u realize, it's cuz there's no reason for Shaurya to be a good actor, and therefore, it's not entirely convincing. This is exactly why I think Akshaye is an absolutely brilliant actor. It was also around this point that I realized that Soma was, in fact, not wearing a jumpsuit. Also, applause to the girl who played Soma, cuz how was she able to look at Akshaye in the eye, laugh and flirt with him. I would've spontaneously combusted. Also her being in a coma and dying is lazy writing.
The court interactions and the dialogues in general are a bit weird. That vendor was not going to the car with tea, it was very obviously a ketchup bottle he used to pour smth in a cup, which is very fuckin weird.
Also, Sunny Deol is the 1 that is repetitive with his movie choices. He's always the goody 2 shoes hero, and always angry. The "dhai kilo ka haath" is cringe af. I have no idea how Avantika gets her hands on Soma in a coma's log. Why does Abhimanyu agree to be a witness if they're gonna put the blame on him?
Just look at Shaurya's micro-expressions with every rxn shot, they're so on point. I also realise that lawyers have effing stressful lives.
Abhimanyu is a bad actor (okay that’s a bit harsh). Soma in a coma's pinned bangs make me think she's in a convent and it doesn't matter if ur in a coma, ur bangs shall remain pinned.
1 thing Shaurya and Rehman have in common is both of their need to ragebait. Sunny's portrayal of self-loathing is terrible, especially compared to Tarun Saluja’s. For the most part, Shaurya seems only mildly interested in the proceedings, cuz he knows uska kuch nahi bigadne wala.
I feel like Shaurya really revels in his evil-ness, and somewhere, maybe Akshaye likes playing people like that too; must be such a rush. I honestly didn't think Soma in not so much of a coma anymore would die. Avantika seems way too stoic when her kid is literally dying. Also, that whole meeting b/w her and Shaurya is just an exposition dump cuz there's no other point to that convo. But he does call her meri jaan (blushes). Avantika and Arjun's marriage is way more effed than I thought cuz, she worked for him??? And she was committed when he liked her??? And he disbarred her ex??? Sus if u ask me.
Now, I love Akshaye so much it hurts, but he's such a good actor, he made me hate Shaurya a lil, although it was a "I wanna fuck him" kinda hate. Like I went "ew" when he tried to caress Avantika and blushed profusely right after. Also, Shaurya always wears funky socks, and makes it a pt. that u can see them.
For a 51 yr old guy, he plays a brat so well. Also, the judge is annoying af.
There’s this 1 scene where I was in awe of Akshaye. It's a very simple line, when Arjun is questioning him again if he killed her or not and he sarcastically says he did (another layer being that he actually did). The delivery of that is so perfect, like u see Shaurya, not Akshaye. Like watch that scene, u will not see a trace of Akshaye in that. It’s all Shaurya.
Sanjeeda is sooo pretty, and a very capable actor. She's also such a baddie, cuz she's like "Ugh, fine. I'll pretend u hit me. Like u ever actually good, u buffoon." Also, Arjun, that is not how u react to some1 who just told u their husband beats them.
Tillotama's husband is an idiot. Like tere paas job toh hai nahi, atleast uski toh rehne de. Also, to expect accountablity frm rich folk, especially in our contry is pretty naïve.
This movie has a duration problem. It has way too many characters for a movie, and not enough plot (they keep calling witnesses that amount to nothing). Also, shouldn't Gauri be charged with lying in court or smth?
A random thing that bothered me was that Shaurya was wearing a leather jacket, In May, In Bombay. Look at his face when he says "It's done." after giving the marrow. He's giving more complexity in that 1 look, than, well anyone thru-out the movie really.
Honestly the end waale "twists" are giving Abbas-Mastan. I did not get why Shaurya showed his handcuffs to his dad like that. Maybe, he was just ragebaiting, he likes that.
Also, I actually didn't get why he ended up stabbing Soma. The tussle they were in wasn't that bad, like what was bro doing? And he's such a good actor that this man, who I would literally die for, actually managed to creep me out a bit (well, it was more of me getting awkward cuz his hawas waali gaze was making me squirm, but whateves).
I honestly didn't get what he said 'bout ethics in the end either. At least, we got 1 movie where the accused, is in fact, guilty. Also, in the beginning, they say that Arjun fights cases for the down-trodden but he's a defence lawyer. Who is filing cases against the down-trodden? And who is paying him?
I feel like they were kinda confused as to whether the movie should be massy or not, and the result was rather meh.

Does anyone remember Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story? Do u guys remember how Charlotte and George 1st meet, when she's trying to escape the garden wall. Yes, that meet-cute everyone was obsessing over is awfully similar to a scene from Magnificent Century: Kosem. In fact, so similar, that I'm almost sure it is at least inspired. In that too, Ahmed and Anastasia meet for the 1st time in a beautiful secret garden. She's trying to escape, because she has been told that the king is a monster of some sort. Charlotte comes to that conclusion on her own, but it's close enough. Both of them try to climb walls to escape, and are startled by the arrival of the king. In MCK, Anastasia picks the more dramatic route of falling down (to be fair, she also manages to climb way higher than Charlotte). Then in both cases the king pretends, or keeps his true identity hidden for a bit, and is baffled by what the girl thinks of him (Ahmed, more romantically, I think, tells Nasia her poet name instead). Not to mention, both the girls are wearing rather similar dresses.
Now I looked this up once b4, and got results in Reddit probably, and some1 was actually calling this observation racist, which I dunno how they came to that conclusion. All I know is, MCK did it 1st; and if u watch that scene, u will see the obvious inspiration.
Not a lot of people know about Magnificent Century or Magnificent Century: Kosem, for that matter; but Bridgerton is ofc quite popular. As some1 who didn't like Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story much (I loved the romance and chemistry and India as young Charlotte is sooo endearing, but I couldn't suspend my belief enough for all the colonial romantacisation) and who considers Magnificent Century a guilty pleasure (it's kinda bad, but so addictive), I just thought I'd make it known in the little way I can.
