Chinese people go by western names because a lot of the times people make fun of their Chinese names? It's not a good argument to say that like I agree that some people take it too far but a lot of people fetishizes Asian cultures and give themselves Chinese/Japanese names for the sake of being cute and they don't get the backlash that Chinese people get when they use their actual Chinese name. I'm all for you using your Chinese name but some people don't respect and it's sometimes a problem!

YEAH NES I AGREE… IT MAKES ME SO FUCKING ANGRY. LIKE i’ll speak in chinese and people make fun of ME, and i’m just barely learning it, so i get 10 times more upset just imagining how they treat chinese immigrants and descendants and foreigners. i can’t imagine what it’s like. people don’t understand why i’m so bothered by racist jokes and shit about chinese people eating dogs (newsflash!!! most don’t!!!) and i try and correct them, but it really saddens me because? i don’t even experience it first hand and i’m bothered? so i can’t think of what it’s like being… actually chinese. it's so frustrating and disgusting and i'm so sorry that happens.
