11: gentle kiss

if he is touch-starved, then she is touch-hungry, fingerswandering where she knows they shouldn’t as she letsher forehead rest resignedly against his chin.

                she’s never met a man she so DESPERATELY wants                to keep, not when she knows everyone leaves in the                end. but she LIKES him. he makes her feel safe in a                world she never meant to fall in to. she’s more settled                in her skin with him, it’s easy to relax. and it’s easy to                imagine he’d stay.

                              so she lets her fingers WANDER, nails finding their                              way through stubble as they work their way up his                              jaw. just until she finds his lips, tracing them with a                              touch. he should really smile more often.

she wants him to smile more often. it’s that thought, shesupposes, that causes her to lift her head, leaning up onher toes as her lips find his. his chocolate always makesher feel warm, but not quite as warm as HIM. Howridiculous.

        The seahorses painted on the mug she hands him have cracks along their curvature --- the sign of a creation that bears more sentimental value than craftsmanship; a handmade gift from family oceans away. Claire’s fingers graze Remus’s as she relinquishes it, carefully, making sure that none of the hot liquid inside spills on him ( or the floor ) in the process. It’s long after curfew and she has an half-finished essay on fire crab injury aftercare that she knows she’ll probably have to scribble haphazardly in the morning, but it doesn’t matter.

          “ I did it the way my mum always made hot cocoa back home...so if it’s so thick you're afraid your insides might stick together you'd best tell me now. ”

                                                        ❛ remus .... how are you doing? lately, i mean. ❜ it was one of those moment where harry felt incredibly worried. considering, well, the last time they had seen each other, remus was holding him back from going after bellatrix lestrange, which had followed sirius’ death. ( no, don’t think about that. never think of that, or you’ll lose yourself to depression. )

It occurs to her, briefly, that not once during their many interactions had she seen him properly SMILE. And that seems a shame, somehow. Like somehow she’s missed the bit of sun between the clouds.

Of course -- she’s not going to tell him to smile either, nose wrinkling as she addresses him, fingers fussing with his shirt (which is hardly hers to fuss with).

             “You always look like you could use another cup of tea, you know that?”

      There’s a lingering bitterness about him, being trapped in this old house       again. There were times when he wished he were on the run again. It was       an uncertain future, but at least he was free. Twelve years of imprisonment,       and he was right back in incarceration. The bitterness within him however,       seemed to melt away around Harry and Remus, and as he spotted the former,       his expression seemed to light up, and he grinned. 

              “Ah, there you are, Remus! Was starting to wonder                     if you’d gotten lost, it’s been so long.”

                         Sure to remain safe from being bothered, Regulus tugged on his sleeve & looked around hastily, before opening A BIG VOLUME of an old book. His lips quivered briefly & he seemed to pale significantly when he reached for his quill. Regulus never quite got to write ANYTHING, though, because reaching to dip the quill into the ink, he spotted an unwanted bystander. His face automatically turned blank & he closed the book abruptly, lips pursing into a line.              ❛ ——— I’m quite certain, Lupin, that I’m not the Black you’re looking for. ❜
