actually, I took the first line to be a reference to /humanity’s/ reception of biotics – which as of canon in the first Mass Effect was not great. they’re unfairly stereotyped and ostracized, and that’s how most of them end up militarized. it’s probably garnered Cora additional trouble if anything, and she’s taking it in stride.
i was wondering about that as a possibility - it being something she didn’t choose for herself, for whatever reason. maybe her parents only knew about asari biotics training and tossed her in the fray,
but the thing that makes me wary is that i don’t think (& i could be wrong) that humans really know what that means, at least not in detail. like if a human says to another human, “i trained with asari commandos” or “that move i just did was huntress-grade”, what does she expect that human to think?
that she’s a powerful biotic? why wouldn’t she just say “i’m a powerful biotic”? what does being asari-trained have to do with it? i know asari have been using biotics a lot longer, but cora is still human. is she telling us that her training has been better than that of most other human biotics? (coz that seems a little arrogant to me haha. not that that’s a bad character trait i mean forreal give us flavor. but you get it.)
i mean, the only thing i can think of that makes this more clear to me is that maybe people in the military (of all species) know better what that means. like maybe when she’s listing her qualifications and huntress & commando training comes up, soldiers all go “ohhhhhhh” and that means something automatically.
of course there could also be a dozen other explanations lol i’m definitely not laying down any serious opinions here, just speculating. cora seems cool & i definitely plan on loving her dearly - i wouldn’t worry if i didn’t care.
like i mean, there’s also nothing wrong with wanting to seem cool or for bioware wanting their character to be received as badass or something. and maybe this means we’ll get to hear more about asari culture & what those qualifications mean. & i wonder if they chose cora for this because they can’t do it with peebee - she’s a nonconformist lol, but without another asari on the squad cora’s the most qualified character to be bestowed that piece of backstory (if that makes sense?)
like, if they wanna tell us more about asari culture AND they want cora to be received as powerful immediately, it’s a good match. i’m certainly not saying it’s not - i’m just hoping that the first part of this is true haha.
i mean can you blame me for wanting to know more about asari culture?? ya can’t bring up that stuff and not expect the audience to be curious about what it means. maybe the alliance knows the specifics of what those qualifications mean, but we (the general audience) sure don’t.
