The Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania weighs 4 billion kgs and is the heaviest building in the world. It was built on the orders of the dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. It was only 70% complete at the time of his demise in 1989, and the majority of the building remains vacant. It took 20,000 workers and 700 architects to build this massive structure that boasts 12 stories, 1,100 rooms and a nuclear bunker. The best way to guage the size of the building is to take the 1 hour tour – less than 5% of the building is visited. Some of the interior is stunning in its opulence and the chandeliers are stunning. Puc 4 shows Boulevard Unirii from Constitution Square in front of the Palace of Parliament to Alba Iulia Square, the boulevard is longer and wider than Champs-Élysées of Paris, on which it is based. In order to create the boulevard and the Palace of the Parliament a large swathe of historic buildings were destroyed and 40,000 residents displaced. . . . . . . #palaceoftheparliament #bucharestromania #travelkiwis #travelkiwisRomania #roadtrippingcouple #roadtripeurope (at Palace of the Parliament) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3e6JBsiRsl/?igshid=biyln72htihk
