================================ ASCENSION TO NOWHERE ================================ #ExpeditionRoan2019 #RoanMountainStatePark . As we headed up our first night to Round Bald on the Appalachian Trail, the weather changed rapidly leaving us with a view of a WALL OF CLOUDS!!. Though this blocked the view for most, it didn't stop people from running around and snapping pictures. After all...they did just hike 3/4 mile up 334'🙂 . Normally when arriving at Round Bald in the distance you see Jane Bald and Grassy Ridge. Not that evening!! . However, I decided to take a couple of shots then hike back. (Didn't want to make a wasted trip, right?) . As I looked through the viewfinder, I saw NOTHING!!!!!!!..Clicked a few and went on. Once I had a few moments to view on a bigger screen I saw the image appear in front of me. . Many times in life we find ourselves excited to get somewhere, then we get there and things are not what they seem..not so great!! . So where does our path lead us? I don't really know the answer to that question, but I do know that having faith, the storm will clear and God's plan and beauty will shine through. . =============================== A WALK THRU THE FORREST =============================== #ExpeditionRoan2019 was an awesome trip even with less than ideal weather. Of course it helps when you are touring with world class photographers that are such great people too. - Our first morning out though rained out initially, the fog created some light that made our surroundings have a natural ethereal feel to it. - While walking along the trail of The Rhododendron Gardens, small amounts of light filtered through the canopy of the Fir trees and the light dappled the greenery below, highlighting the walkway. =============================== LEMON CONTRAST =============================== Our first morning in Roan Mountain started off with some moist weather (LOL), leaving with some fog that cut visiblity down to almost nothing. - After some breakfast grub from Bob's Dairyland we headed back to basecamp to pack up and headout with the hopes the fog would burn off. - As we pulled up I noticed the Lemon Lily Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus (Thanks Google) or Daylily as most of us here call them, still had some water droplets on them and their bright lemon color was popping against their dark green stems.
